We all love a good F-Word at Sheboygan Massage π
Speaking of food, Thanksgiving week is officially here! But here's something we all might not have realized: The average American will consume between 3,000-4,500 calories on their Thanksgiving dinner plate, give or take some calories on each end of the spectrum of course.
There's no need to skip Thanksgiving dinner, but there are ways to make it a bit healthier this year and skip some of the damage. Here's a few fun facts to keep in mind while preparing your feast this week:
-Dark meat has about TWICE the amount of saturated fat as the white breast meat, so don't just "wing it" on your turkey choice this year
-One cup of mashed potatoes with gravy can have around 300 calories. Since you don't need to cut or even chew mashed potatoes, they're an easy food to eat a lot of in a short time. If you're someone who likes to add a snack or two into your normal day, keep in mind 350 is around the calories you'd be aiming for in an entire meal- So take it easy on the mashed potato scoops on your plate this year, and you won't be tempted to keep over-eating until your plate is empty.
-Everybody has to have a slice of pie on Thanksgiving right? It's like an unspoken rule. Go ahead and indulge, we're definitely not laying down a strict no pie policy. However, you may want to keep in mind that the types of pies from lowest to highest amount of calories typically go as follows:
Pumpkin, Apple, Pecan. So if possible, say yes to that pumpkin pie and cut a few hundred calories off your meal total.
-A few other fairly simple swaps can include whole grain rolls instead of white rolls, swapping out regular milk for heavy cream in the preparation process, and drinking water instead of alcohol during the meal, as water will add no extra or empty calories & will also trick your stomach into thinking it's fuller than it actually is.
Follow these tips to help you enjoy your favorite F-word, instead of feeling like an overstuffed turkey this Thanksgiving season.
