May is here, marking the start of Mental Health Awareness Month and there’s no more powerful way to begin than by coming together for the Su***de Awareness Convoy happening tomorrow, May 2.

This incredible event, organized by the Warner family, is now in its sixth year in memory of Nicole Warner, beloved daughter of Deenice and Chris Warner. What began as a deeply felt idea, when Deenice, a driver for Nelson Truck Lines, reached out to her trucking community to raise awareness has grown into one of the largest su***de awareness convoys in the nation.

Over the years, this movement has united the trucking community and our region to shine a light on the reality of su***de, reduce stigma, and connect individuals with vital resources. Proceeds from the event directly support su***de awareness programming through our organization, which serves more than 10,000 individuals each year.

We invite you to be part of this meaningful moment. Gather your family, make signs, and join us in showing support along the interstate from Oostburg to Manitowoc. Join us after for an all wheel show at Manitowoc Fairgrounds with food, music, raffles, and connection. Let’s stand together and remind the trucking community and everyone impacted that they are not alone.

Thank you to the United Way of Sheboygan County for continuing to lead our community in volunteerism. It was an incredibly moving day at the Spirit Awards, celebrating the many nominees across our remarkable county.

We are proud to recognize our nominee, John Scholke, who unfortunately could not join us in person, but we made sure to bring his smiling face along! John has dedicated more than 20 years of volunteer service to Mental Health America Lakeshore. During that time, he has served on our board twice, helped coordinate all aspects of the There is HOPE Su***de Awareness Walk, and stepped in as our go-to handyman whenever support is needed at the office.

John is a true advocate for mental health. His career in law enforcement reflects a lifelong commitment to serving others and supporting community well-being. Congratulations, John!

Did you know the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline connects millions of people each year to immediate, compassionate support during moments of crisis? A recent piece from the The New York Times highlights research showing that since the rollout of 988 in 2022, su***de rates among young people in the U.S. have fallen 11% below projected levels over the following two and a half years.

This powerful data reinforces what many of us witness every day; timely access to care and human connection truly saves lives.

Want to learn more about 988? Visit: https://988lifeline.org and follow their social channels. In Wisconsin, services are supported by Family Services of Northeast Wisconsin; you can learn more about our state provider here: https://www.familyservicesnew.org/service/wisconsin-lifeline #988

Su***des among young adults dropped most sharply in states that actively embraced the 988 crisis line, new research has found.

Shout out to Elevate, our crisis response program serving Sheboygan County. If you’re not familiar, it’s worth learning more about the incredible support they provide to individuals and families, whether it’s assessing a crisis, developing a safety plan, or helping connect people to the care and treatment they need.

In addition to providing crisis response for the county and supporting the co-responder program, they also offer a walk-in clinic, making access to care even more immediate. This is a resource everyone should know about, especially when it comes to recognizing when someone may be struggling and knowing how to intervene or refer them for help with emotional distress, suicidal thoughts, or simply understanding their mental wellness. Learn more about Elevate, Inc. at https://elevateyou.org/

Since launching at the end of 2023, the crisis co-responder program has reduced involuntary commitments in Sheboygan by 50% compared to recent data.

Read our April blog post to help us celebrate a small-town hero! Because the small moments are where real change begins 🫶🏽

It can be argued that all great things start small. History proves that movements rarely begin with something big. If you start to dig, you’ll find that often, they begin with someone deciding their pain or lived experience will NOT be the end of the story. Fast forward to 2026. Two men exchange a...
