Today is my 4-year anniversary for Live Love Lake Senior Living. I couldn’t be more thankful and proud. I am grateful for all those who assisted and have been a part of my journey.
It’s true when they say if it was easy, everyone would be doing it. It’s been a roller coaster with more positive experiences, but definitely some unexpected challenges along the way to work through. Nothing is a better learning experience than hands-on.
I want to encourage all who are considering starting their own business to not hesitate, but take action! Talk gets you nowhere. Don’t let the fear of the unknown, the chance of failure, or the excuse that you don’t know where to get started stop you. Planning and ex*****on with no delays is my recommendation. Do your research. Let AI assist — since now it should be easier than ever. Use your networking sphere of resources if you can’t figure it out yourself. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Take advice from those who already do what you want to do and discard negativity, especially from those you wouldn’t want to trade places with in life.
If you have a couple of bad days with obstacles, let that be a great lesson.
I also want to share a couple of myths regarding my business path. I wasn’t given even $1 from family, friends, or others to start my business. I was actually unemployed when I started, just working various side jobs.
Most people think you need a degree to do what I do, and actually, you don’t need any. However, I was fortunate to have a couple. I can say they may have assisted some, but I feel I could have also been successful without them. I earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing and another in business/management/marketing.
Multiple people prior to starting said I would fail because I didn’t have a traditional written business plan. My plan was all calculated in my head. I can say from day one, it has always been a success. I had to get creative with avenues to create revenue in the beginning.
When I first started operations as an Airbnb, I had to quickly defend myself as the city and neighbors all tried to shut me down. That was only temporary while preparing for my main business. It ended after eight months, eight tickets, and then representing myself in an eight-hour court trial against the city.
I put in the time, which is what I believe a successful business requires to take off. I lived there and sacrificed by giving up my personal house for six months. I had no mentor, no guide — I just learned through trial and error. I am still learning every day.
I believe the key is not giving up when times get hard and doing something you enjoy and are passionate about.
Now my family is very proud, and one day when my parents need a different place to live and great care, it will be there.
