I'm joining in-what better way to spend election eve...

Join us for a special two-hour gathering on November 4th at 5 PM PT / 8 PM ET. This unique event will replace our regular meditation group and is open to all. This gathering aims to provide a space to come together and meditate, sharing our wish for peace everywhere.

You know, I just have to say something as I've not seen this mentioned in any of the arguments against Daylight Savings Time become permanent. But for transparency, and as a Sleep Specialist, I am strongly in favor of permanent Standard Time-it's better for our health, circadian rhythms, decreased accidents, all children of all ages, etc.
So one more reason for Standard Time. In a warming world, why on earth would we want an extra hour of sunlight during the hottest months of the year?!

The time draws closer...for both the reintroduction of Daylight Savings Time (the bane of sleep specialists!) and even sooner for my Sleep Course beginning March 13th, which will fully explain why standard time is much healthier for us, among many other sleep-management issues.

These Your Optimal Nature Sleep Management (YONSM) programs can be taken in a series of weekly, consecutive, weeknight sessions offered throughout the year, and are compatible with managing an active clinical practice at the same time. All sessions are audio/video recorded for later review and/or make-up. Classes are purposefully kept small to allow time for in depth discussion, any and all questions to be asked and answered, and individual case supervision. The YONSM program provides specific training to manage sleep at a basic (Level 1), advanced (Level 2) or master level (Level 3), depending on your particular needs. Each Level stands on it’s own.

In my 32 years practice I have seen sleep medicine become an increasingly important field of study. It has grown along with our burgeoning knowledge of sleep science, heightened awareness of sleep disorders, and the advent of wearable technology. However, the need for clinical practitioners has far outstripped the medical field’s ability to train certified practitioners.
There are many healthcare providers in all medical specialties who have clients presenting with significant sleep issues that, at minimum, impact the quality of care, and at most, require management. In the course of treating a variety of maladies — in particular mood disorders which almost always have a disordered sleep component — basic knowledge of sleep medicine may go a long way toward providing comprehensive and improved clinical care.
While there exist Board-certifying training programs, these are multiple year fellowships offered to highly trained medical professionals and are few-there are just not enough training programs to go around. Many healthcare providers have neither the time nor the inclination to put their practices on hold while they spend 2-3 years acquiring the necessary training to become sleep specialists.
