We’re proud to share that Kyle Buchanan, President of Helen Keller Hospital and Red Bay Hospital, has been named President of Crestwood Medical Center.

Kyle’s leadership has played an important role in advancing care across our hospitals and strengthening the services we provide close to home.

As we move forward, Sherry Sands, Chief Nursing Officer and Vice President of Patient Services, will serve as Interim President of Helen Keller Hospital and Red Bay Hospital.

We congratulate Kyle on this well-deserved opportunity and look forward to continued collaboration across the Huntsville Hospital Health System.

For 16 years, Jason McGee was a familiar and trusted presence for Sheffield’s student-athletes.

This week, Sheffield High School honored his legacy with the dedication of the Jason McGee Athletic Training Room — a space that reflects the same care, commitment, and heart he gave so freely.

We’re proud to have called him part of the Helen Keller Hospital family, and grateful to see his impact live on in the place he cared about so deeply.

Just days into recovery from a recent procedure, Brooklyn Bigbee arrived at our Emergency Department facing a sudden, life-threatening complication. What followed was a race against time — and a team that never left her side.

From rapid stabilization and blood transfusions to coordinating emergency transport for surgery, every step was taken with urgency, compassion, and intention.

Last week, Brooklyn returned with a cake to thank the team who cared for her during one of the most frightening moments of her life. She also shared these words of appreciation:

“Dr. McIlwain, Dr. Reese, Lindi (RN), Amanda (Ultrasound Tech), and every team member involved were nothing short of amazing. God worked through them, and there was evidence of that from start to finish.”

We’re grateful for the trust Brooklyn placed in our team and feel honored to share her story with our community. 💚

Some of the most important moments in a person’s life begin with a physician. A diagnosis explained. A steady hand in surgery. A conversation that brings clarity, comfort, or hope when it’s needed most.

Today, we recognize the physicians at Helen Keller Hospital who carry that responsibility with skill, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to those they serve.

Your work reaches far beyond our walls and into the lives of this entire community.

Happy National Doctors' Day! 💚🏥🩺

Celebrating the next generation of physicians. 👏🩺💚

Last week, we had the opportunity to spend time with our 3rd and 4th-year medical students — sharing insight, celebrating milestones, and marking the end of an important chapter.

From an informative lunch session focused on preparing for residency, to celebrating Match Day with our 4th year students, to a well-deserved night out together, it was a week full of meaningful moments.

We're proud to be part of their journey and excited for what's ahead.

Big congratulations are in order! 👏 We’re proud to announce our 2025 Employee of the Year, Jacoby “Doozy” Marshall (Hospitalist Coordinator), and our Director of the Year, Stephanie Moore (Director of Practice Management).

From his years as a tech in our Emergency Department to his recent transition into Hospitalist Coordinator, Doozy is known for being an exceptional teammate, a natural leader, and a true friend.

In her role overseeing multiple HKH clinics, Stephanie has demonstrated exceptional leadership, trust and respect. Her recognition speaks volumes, as she was nominated by every single physician across these practices.

We’re also proud to recognize Amy Wells, Director of ICU/PCU, and Brian Clark, Director of Rehab/Physical Therapy, as honorary mentions for their outstanding impact across their teams.

These individuals represent the very best of Helen Keller Hospital. It's an honor to work alongside them in caring for our community. 💚🩺

We had a larger-than-life visitor at Helen Keller Hospital today! 👀

As part of Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, we welcomed the GIANT inflatable colon, aka "Colleen," to help bring attention to colon health and the importance of screening. Visitors and staff were able to walk through the exhibit, learn more about colorectal cancer, and talk with our team about screening options.

If you needed a sign to check in on your colon health, this is it. 💙

Today is National Hospitalist Day, and we’re proud to recognize the providers who care for patients inside our hospital every single day.

Hospitalists play a critical role in coordinating care, supporting families, and helping patients safely return home. Their work often happens behind the scenes, but the impact is felt throughout our hospital.

We’re grateful for the expertise and commitment our Hospitalist team brings to Helen Keller Hospital and the Shoals community! 🩺💚
