Today, we honor Juneteenth. A day of liberation, remembrance, and resilience.

At the Couples Center of the Pioneer Valley, we pause to reflect on the enduring strength of Black communities and the continuing struggle for justice and equity.

We recognize that healing happens not only within ourselves and our relationships, but also through acknowledging historical truths and working toward a more compassionate and equitable future.

We stand in solidarity, in remembrance, and in celebration.

Rare Disease Day is an annual observance (typically) held on the last day of February each year. The primary purpose of Rare Disease Day is to raise awareness about rare diseases and their impact on individuals' lives. The day also aims to promote research into rare diseases and advocate for better access to diagnosis, treatment, and medical care for people affected by these conditions.

Rare diseases, also known as orphan diseases, are typically defined by their low prevalence in the population. In the United States, a rare disease is one that affects fewer than 200,000 people, while in Europe, a disease is considered rare if it affects fewer than 1 in 2,000 individuals. Despite their individual rarity, collectively, rare diseases affect a significant number of people worldwide.

By promoting awareness and collaboration, Rare Disease Day plays a crucial role in advancing research, improving healthcare policies, and ultimately enhancing the quality of life for those living with rare diseases.
