I'd like to give everyone something new to think about: Osteopathic practice and cultural changes. Here is a quote from the famous Dr. Fulford from the 1980s. Our next episode will explore this fascinating topic. Consider it . . .

This quote is attributed to William Sutherland, DO. This is a photocopy of a hand inscribed piece of artwork—or better stated, a notice or announcement—that was on the wall in Dr. Sutherland's treatment room. Patients saw this profound statement of Sutherland's philosophy. I would argue that this is an Osteopathic philosophy that likely was promoted by A. T. Still.
This quote exemplifies the priorities of an Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment. In our episode #33, we discuss the issue of miracles (or lack of miracles) in Osteopathic practice. Please consider listening to the entire episode and comment on Facebook or Patreon.

PS Copies of this quote used to be available from the Museum of Osteopathic Medicine. You may want to have this essential expression of our philosophy on the wall of your treatment room.

How we care for ourselves, or how we ignore our wellbeing, influences the way we care for others. How can we encourage and teach our patients to care for themselves if we don’t do that for ourselves?

The whole arena of self-care is vast, but what we’re going to hone in on in this episode is specifically that Osteopathic care of the Osteopath. As an Osteopath, do we get treated Osteopathically?

If you’re an experienced Osteopath, especially if you’re involved in teaching, here’s a companion question to ponder, “How do we model self-care to the young Osteopaths that we teach?”

In this episode, we take a dive into exploring the possibilities of why and how as Osteopath we might want to seriously consider choosing to be cared for by one of our colleagues.

Osteopathy is so much more than the American Four Tenets of Osteopathic Medicine. I am continuing the international discussion on creating a concise "definition" of Osteopathy that can be applied in education, with insurance companies, and with governmental organizations. Read my complete essay that deconstructs the "old" tenets and explains my proposed new and improved Six Tenets. I welcome you input.

Ok, we are going to take on another interesting topic that many Osteopaths and non-Osteopaths use frequently--the use of the word "RELEASE." We think that a release could be a fallacy or a distortion when working with the body osteopathically. Please become a subscriber and join the discussion called Osteopathy Unplugged.

I want to return to a discussion of the American Four Tenets of Osteopathic Medicine. Are they a true reflection of our work as Osteopaths? I would say no.

In our most recent podcast we discuss the Four Tenets in great detail in our "op-ed" or opinion piece on this important topic.

Please listen to the entire FREE episode and post your comments and we can talk about it.
