Athletic culture and eating disorders intersect in ways that are well-documented and still underaddressed. Athletes face unique pressures around weight, body composition, and performance that can drive disordered eating, which are often masked by cultural praise for discipline and dedication. World Athletics Day is a moment to name this clearly: athletic excellence and eating disorders can coexist. Practitioners working with athletes need the training to see it.

Eating disorders frequently begin in childhood and adolescence, yet the average time between onset and treatment remains alarmingly long. Early identification depends on adults who know what to look for: parents, teachers, pediatricians, school counselors, and mental health professionals. Today, on Children's Mental Health Awareness Day, iaedp recognizes the practitioners working to close that gap for younger populations.

Truth #1: Many people with eating disorders look healthy, yet may be extremely ill.
This is one of the most harmful myths—and it keeps people from getting the help they need.
Eating disorders are serious, brain-based illnesses that affect people of all shapes, sizes, ages, and backgrounds.
STOP STIGMA by letting go of the idea that you can “see” an eating disorder.
START CARE by taking concerns seriously and encouraging early, evidence-based treatment.
TOGETHER, families, friends, clinicians, educators, and communities can help ensure no one is overlooked.
💜 Be part of World Eating Disorders Action Day. Share the truth. Help start care.

START CARE: Early detection and evidence-based treatment save lives. Don’t wait for visible signs.
