Songbird Acupuncture is 10 years old today! 🎉 🎂🥳 Thank you to everyone who’s trusted and supported me over the years. This space has been dormant for a while as I’ve settled into my new life in Vermont, but stay tuned for more from me coming soon! I hope you’ll follow along, and I hope you’re well.

Many of you asked me to keep you posted on my new life in Vermont, so I wanted to update and say that we arrived safely in the Green Mountain State and are settling in! I love this view of our sweet new street and can’t wait for the trees to get their baby spring leaves, which should happen any day now. 💚

I’m writing with many mixed emotions to announce the closure of Songbird Acupuncture. After Thursday, March 28, I will no longer be seeing patients at my current office.

In April, my husband and I are relocating to Burlington, Vermont, where I’ll be joining Burlington Acupuncture, an established local practice. Moving further north has been a longtime goal and I’m excited for the change, but I'm sad to leave all the wonderful people I've gotten to know in Austin.

I'm not accepting new patients, but will be available during March for followup appointments. If you’re an established patient and would like to set up an appointment, visit songbirdacupuncture.com to schedule or text me at 512.640.9778. I'd love to see you! (Current and former patients should already have received an email with more details.)

Thank you so much for your support these past 9 years. My goal has always been to offer a space where you're heard and supported, whether you’ve worked with me in person or followed my content on social media. I’m grateful for your trust and I've loved being a part of this community!

🐉 WELCOME TO DRAGON TIME! 🐉 February 10 marks the lunar new year and the transition into the year of the Wood Dragon.

🌱 Wood is the element of spring and represents new growth and ideas.

🐉 Dragons, in East Asian cultures, symbolize innovation, adventure, prosperity, and courage. The Wood Dragon is the most creative and visionary of the dragons. So this year will be a fantastic time to start new projects or explore new directions in your life!

🌱 Just remember to embrace the energy of the wood element and stay flexible, like a tree swaying in the wind. Remember also that action requires rest. Even if you’ve got amazing new things going, keep your pace sustainable and take breaks to avoid burnout and frustration.

🐉 In the clinic, I’ll be working with wood element points to encourage your body to shift with the change in energy. These treatments are especially valuable if you’ve been feeling grumpy, irritable, or stuck lately. Sometimes we need a little nudge to move into what's next!

To schedule an appointment, text 512.640.9778 or visit the link in my bio. Happy lunar new year!

Above my head is a cedar tree full of pollen. In my hand is an herbal formula to treat pollen allergies. If you’re an itchy, sneezy, sinus-y mess lately, an acupuncture treatment or two plus one bottle of this formula can get you feeling MUCH better for the rest of cedar season. Link in bio to schedule online. Text 512.640.9778 with questions!

When life gets tough, what do you notice about how you respond?

Here’s how I respond: I get irritable. I withdraw and feel like I need to accomplish everything alone. I get headaches. I don’t sleep well. I focus on the negative.

These are my teaching symptoms. They’re like the check engine light in a car: a heads up that something’s off. Teaching symptoms show us where we’re stuck, where we’re not acknowledging our needs, where we need support and tending.

Since I figured out my patterns, I’m WAY more likely to realize “This means I need some care” instead of lashing out or spiraling into an “everything sucks forever” mindset.

(This doesn’t mean I don’t get pulled into a spiral sometimes. We all do. But I get out of them more quickly, with less damage to me and those around me.)

Your very own, unique teaching symptoms might surface as physical discomfort, difficult emotions, or specific behaviors. No matter what they are, learning how you show up during life’s bumps is a huge step toward better physical and mental health.

And yeah, this is one of those times when true self-care requires work, honesty, and curiosity! So I’m curious, as you read this, do you recognize any teaching symptoms in yourself?

Happy solstice! The darkest dark, the return of the light, all at the same time. It always feels magical to me.

Here in Austin many trees are just now shedding their leaves, a visual reminder that this season is energetically about rest. Rest can feel really hard to find in December!

But if I've learned anything this year, it's the big huge power of small things. Even micro-moments of rest honor the quiet stillness of winter. A minute of breathing, listening to your feelings, watching the sky, closing your eyes . . . each of these can go a long way.

Speaking of rest, the clinic will be closed from December 22-January 2 so I can spend time with my family, books, many cups of tea, and fuzzy socks. But the January calendar is open now! If you'd like support navigating fertility, pregnancy, the wilds of perimenopause, or the daily stresses of life, visit songbirdacupuncture.com to schedule a free phone consultation or appointment online.

May you find rest and joy this holiday season!
