Don't panic.

You see, your body responds to anxiety the same way every time. I do not mean in the way that you are thinking as not everyone's symptoms of anxiety are the same. However, the internal process our body goes through is the same. You see your body responds to any type of anxiety whether it be an actual life or death situation or anxiety about a test the exact same way. Our body cannot differentiate between the possible death and anxiety and non-life threatening anxiety. So let me give you the run down... First off your body is preparing to enter the three stages of Fight, flight, or freeze. In order for you to respond one of these three ways, your body begins to pump adrenaline throughout your body so that you can outrun or fight off the life threatening danger. In order for the adrenaline to reach the areas that are needed most in a possible life threatening situation, blood flow is slowed down to non essential organs. Blood flow slows down to your reproductive organs because ovulation is not an essential part of surviving a life threatening scenario. Blood flow also slows down to the digestive system. Blood flow also is then slowed down to our immune system. So anxiety slows down our immune system even if it is not a life threatening situation. The logic and reasoning part of the brain shuts down so that we can just respond without thinking about the potential danger, which can be problematic in situations that are not life threatening and reasoning and logic can be beneficial.

So as our world is facing the spread of a new virus and are unsure how to handle it, please know that the most important thing we need to survive this is our immune system. Constant anxiety is consistently slowing down your immune system which makes us more susceptible to illnesses. So, calm down and be smart. Know the symptoms. Follow the hygiene recommendations. If you are sick stay home. If you are concerned, limit your presence in public spaces. But panicking and anxiety is only going to make it worse.
