Dying to Know Day, on August 8th, encourages deep conversations about the one thing all humans have in common – death. The day is all about easing the stress and normalizing conversations about death, to make the transition from life to death a bit easier. Having these types of difficult conversations in advance might feel a bit uncomfortable or awkward now but, ultimately, this can help to reduce the anguish that is felt by loved ones after someone dies.

Andrew Anastasios published his book called Dying to Know: Bringing Death to Life in 2010. The book offers some options for conversation starters to remove some of the awkwardness from the topic. Talking about death…is part of life…So that we’ll all accept and plan on death, so that we can live even better in the present moment.

Purple Heart Day on August 7th is a day for Americans to remember and honor the men and women who bravely represented their country and were wounded or killed while serving. These people are decorated with a Purple Heart in the name of the President.

August is Happiness Happens Month, a whole month dedicated to celebrating what makes you happy. Happiness is a choice. Remembering happiness does not mean you are problem free. That kind of life does not exist. Happiness is not a destination, but rather a life-long pursuit. Happiness can be anywhere at any time. Happiness is unlimited and can be contagious, it can be a small action and that sharing one’s happiness can bring a lot of joy in other people’s lives.

August 4th is celebrated as the U.S. Coast Guard Birthday, honoring the courageous work of the service members. The United States Coast Guard is one of the six US Armed Forces. Always ready to protect our shores and waterways, the Coast Guard provides more than search and rescue. They are a large part of the nation’s navigation system and Marine Environmental Protection.

Since 1790, service members have been ready to provide support whatever the mission and their commitment continues today. Thank you for your service.

Nothing can quite compare to the bond that sisters have, the closeness that forms as you grow up together, sharing your secrets, your dreams, the fun times and has been by your side through thick and thin. Sisters have a deep connection that grows throughout childhood and remains strong throughout life.

Sunflowers are said to be a symbol of adoration, loyalty, and longevity. Part of the daisy family, their bright yellow color is a sign of happiness, friendship, and intelligence. In addition to offering benefits such as food and beauty for humans, sunflowers are also excellent attractors for butterflies as well as providing pollen for the all-important honey bees. Much like the sun, sunflowers mirror vibrancy and give off an energy of life. National Sunflower Day reminds us to show our inner sunshine, while taking the opportunity to share one of the most beautiful and happiest flowers on earth.

Where would we be without our parents, the people who loved us even before we were born? From our birth, parents protect, teach, provide, and serve as role models. As part of a family, we look to them for guidance. They do so much for us every day of our young lives and the love doesn’t stop once we’re adults.
Throughout our lives, our parents lead us to be independent thinking individuals. Today serves to celebrate their important role in our lives; National Parents’ Day, July 28th.
