Cedarbrae Inc.

Cedarbrae Inc. Find respite in the rural. My name is Nicole "Nicki" Strome. It should foster connection and collaboration, rather than clinical coldness.

I am a former licensed mental health therapist who grew discouraged and disillusioned by the box-checking, inaccessible, expensive, revolving door that is counseling in America. So I decided I needed to do something radically different- both for myself and my clients- and left the profession. I believe that mental, spiritual, and emotional wellness should be holistic, experiential, and should be f

or everyone. It should be exactly what YOU and your soul want and need, not what an agency or insurance panel dictates it should be. And so, the Cedarbrae Center was born. Here, your wellness, wants, and needs are dictated by you. Working alongside our equine partners, you will have the freedom to be authentically you, and to be enveloped in peace, empowerment, and personal understanding; I will simply serve as your guide. Life coaching is an alliance between the coach and the client in a thought-provoking, creative, and spiritual process that inspires the client to maximize their personal potential. It is designed to facilitate self-discovery, expansion of thought processes, identification of limiting beliefs and behaviors, and the creation, development, and achievement of personal goals. The focus of coaching is not on the past, but the present and future. Furthermore, we believe that each individual already possesses the attributes needed to self-actualize; it is simply a coach’s job to help guide them. What sets the Cedarbrae Center apart is how we go about this. We believe that the first step to personal development and empowerment is authentic autonomy- that is, allowing yourself to truly be yourself. So come on in and have a seat, or not! Brush a horse, walk the pasture, clean a stall, have a cup of coffee and a chat; the choice is yours. No matter how you choose to go about it, we are dedicated to helping you reach your full potential, and achieving empowerment through equines.

If you’re not sure about what we do or even about the whole “horse thing” in general, this week is a great opportunity to stop out at the Draft Horse barn at the Richland County Fair, pet this sweet little face, and see what we’re all about!

Told ya we had big things coming in 2025!

This is the future site of the Cedarbrae Center.

Up until this point, my parents have been gracious enough to allow me to use their barn and horses for my business; however, moving the business to our own property will:

-Make my time more efficient, because I can use the time I would be commuting to their house to see more clients instead.
-Put us in a great location right off Route 30 that is easily accessible from outside counties.
-Give us over double the space, expanding from 6 acres to 13.
-Give us a greater variety of activities to choose from in our sessions, beyond working with the horses, including walking paths, chickens, and a garden.
-Allow us to build to suit, including an office, round pens, obstacle courses, heat inside the barn, and more.

My vision here is to create a space that will serve as a refuge for my clients.

There is a LOT of work to be done, including building stalls onto our existing barn, digging a well and running water lines, moving the existing radiant heater, planting and fencing the pasture, planting trees, and buying horses, among many other things. But, every time I have gotten discouraged and thought maybe my grand plans were too much, God has shown up and made them happen.

I will be sure to continue sharing updates as they come, so stay tuned!

Yes, I know- I’m awful at social media engagement. I’d much rather be focused on the people and moments in front of me. But with that being said, and with this being the last week of seeing clients before the horses and I take a little well-deserved winter break, I’d like to take a minute to acknowledge everyone who made this year such a great one.

Thank you to my family who has supported me in my endeavors, and through my doubts. Thank you to all the people who referred others to me. Thank you to my clients for trusting me and our process together. And thanks be to God, who has come through in unexpected ways.

This year was full of amazing growth not just for my business and clients, but for me as well. Stay tuned; even bigger things are coming in 2025!

“I don’t know why she’s acting out.”
“He’s been so bad lately!”
“This just isn’t them.”

Back to school can be a tough time for everyone, especially kids.

Did you know research shows that time around horses can reduce stress and increase feelings of confidence?

In a season of change, are you ready to see more 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 changes in your children? Let us show you.

“Did you know….An oyster that has not been wounded in any way does not produce pearls?
A pearl is a healed wound.

Pearls are a product of pain, the result of a foreign or unwanted substance entering the oyster, such as a parasite or a grain of sand.

The inside of an oyster shell is a shiny substance called “nacre.”

When a grain of sand enters, the nacre cells go to work and cover the grain of sand with layers and more layers to protect the defenseless body from the oyster. As a result, a beautiful pearl is formed!

The more pearls, the more valuable…

God never allows pain without a purpose.

What if your greatest ministry to others comes out of your greatest hurt or deepest wounds?
The hard things we may be going through now are really nothing in comparison to the glory that will be revealed in us later. (Romans 8:17-18)”

Recent studies conducted by the Institute of Heart-Math provide a clue to explain the two-way ′′healing′′ that occurs when we're close to horses.
According to researchers, the heart has an electromagnetic field larger than the brain: a magnetometer can measure the energy field of the heart that radiates from 2.4 meters to 3 meters around the human body.
While this is certainly significant, perhaps more impressive than the electromagnetic field projected by the heart of a horse is five times larger than that of a human being (imagine an electromagnetic sphere around the horse) and it can influence straight into our own heart rate.
Horses are also likely to have what science has identified as a "coherent′′ heart rate (heart rate pattern) that explains why we can feel better when we're close to them. Studies have found a coherent heart pattern or HRV to be a solid measure of well-being and consistent with emotional states of calm and joy-that is, we exhibit such patterns when we feel positive emotions.
A coherent heart pattern is indicative of a system that can recover and adapt to stressful situations very efficiently. Many times, we just need to be in the presence of horses to feel a sense of well-being and peace.
In fact, research shows that people experience many physiological benefits by interacting with horses, including lower blood pressure and heart rate, higher beta-endorphins (neurotransmitters acting as pain suppressors), decreased stress levels, decreased feelings of anger, hostility, tension and anxiety, better social working; and greater feelings of empowerment, confidence, patience and self-efficacy.

The best way I’ve found to silence my racing thoughts is by replacing them with the sound of rain on a barn roof and horses munching hay.

Never know what you might find in the barn- like kittens in a twine barrel, or just maybe, yourself.
