Prime For Life – North Carolina DWI First Offender Program

Charged with a DWI in North Carolina?
If your alcohol and drug assessment indicates low risk, you may qualify for Prime For Life (ADETS) — the state-approved education program for first-time DWI offenders.

Prime For Life is:

✔ A North Carolina–approved 16-hour education program
✔ Designed for individuals with low-risk indicators on assessment
✔ Focused on prevention, decision-making, and reducing future risk
✔ Required by the DMV before license reinstatement (when recommended)

This is not long-term treatment. It is structured education for individuals whose assessment does not indicate substance dependence.

The key step?
A certified alcohol and drug assessment determines eligibility.

Do not delay your assessment.
Completion of recommended services is required before moving forward with license restoration.

📍 Serving Cleveland County and surrounding areas
💻 In-person and virtual options available

Call today to schedule your assessment and determine if you qualify for Prime For Life. 704-419-2186

Being charged with a DWI can feel overwhelming. One of the most important next steps is completing a certified alcohol and drug assessment.

Why it matters:

✔ It is required by the state before license restoration
✔ It determines the level of education or treatment required
✔ It provides formal documentation for court and DMV
✔ It can prevent delays in reinstatement

The assessment is conducted by a qualified professional and looks at patterns, risk factors, and any history of substance use. It is confidential and structured.

Avoid misinformation. Not every DWI results in the same recommendation. The assessment determines that.

If you have questions about the process, reach out. The sooner it’s completed, the sooner you can move forward. 704-419-2186

When Someone Has Lost a Parent
Even when the parent was elderly or ill, grief is real and layered.

What To Say

“I’m so sorry about your mom/dad.”
“What was your favorite thing about them?”
“This must feel like losing part of your foundation.”
“How are you holding up today?”
“I’m thinking about you.”
“Would it help if I brought dinner / helped with errands / sat with you?”
If the relationship was complicated:
“However you’re feeling right now is okay.”

What NOT To Say

“Well, they lived a long life.”
“At least they’re not suffering.”
“You knew this was coming.”
“Be strong.”
“Time heals all wounds.”
Grief is not linear and not logical.

Practical Guidance (Often More Important Than Words)
Use their loved one’s name.
Accept tears or silence without trying to fill it.
Offer specific help instead of “Let me know if you need anything.”
“I can pick up groceries Tuesday.”
“I’ll sit with you at the service.”
Continue checking in weeks and months later. The silence from others often hurts more than the loss.

If You’re Unsure What to Say
This is perfectly acceptable:
“I don’t have the right words. I just care about you.”
Presence > perfection.

When Someone Has Lost a Child

This is often described as one of the most destabilizing losses a person can experience. Avoid minimizing or reframing it.

What To Say

“I am so deeply sorry. There are no words.”
“I can’t imagine the pain you’re carrying, but I care about you.”
“Tell me about your child.” (Use the child’s name if you know it.)
“I’m here. You don’t have to go through this alone.”
“I don’t know what to say, but I want you to know I love you.”
“What would be most helpful for you right now?”
If appropriate:
“Your child mattered. Their life mattered.”

What NOT To Say

“Everything happens for a reason.”
“God needed another angel.”
“At least you have other children.”
“You can always have another.”
“I know how you feel.” (Unless you truly have lost a child — and even then, use caution.)
“They’re in a better place.”
Any timeline statement (“You’ll feel better soon.”)
"IF you need anything, let me know."
Avoid turning it into your story or offering theology unless they initiate that direction.

Think about a friend you lost when they lost a deep connection. Reconnect. Call, stop by, let them know you are thinking about them, invite them to lunch. "IF" you need anything, they will never ask. They suffer in silence. Being physically there is enough.

Why You NEED a DWI Alcohol & Drug Assessment After You’ve Been Charged

If you’ve been charged with a DWI, an alcohol and drug assessment isn’t just “another appointment.” It is a critical step in protecting your license and your future.

In North Carolina, a DWI assessment:
• Is required before license reinstatement
• Determines if treatment or education is necessary
• Can directly impact court outcomes
• Helps identify risk factors you may not recognize

This assessment is not about punishment. It’s about evaluation. It provides documentation that the court and DMV rely on.

Waiting too long can delay your license restoration and your case resolution.

If you or someone you know has been charged, do not ignore this step. Getting the assessment completed promptly can prevent additional complications.

Feeling Overwhelmed? Start with a Comprehensive Clinical Evaluation.

Before meaningful change can happen, clarity is essential.

A Comprehensive Clinical Evaluation (CCE) is the first step in understanding what is truly going on beneath the surface. Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, mood instability, or life stressors, a thorough assessment provides direction — not guesswork.

A Comprehensive Clinical Evaluation includes:

✔ Detailed mental health history
✔ Current symptoms and functional impact
✔ Screening for co-occurring conditions
✔ Diagnostic clarity (when appropriate)
✔ Personalized treatment recommendations

This is not a quick checklist. It is a structured clinical process designed to identify root concerns and create a targeted plan of care.

If you’ve been feeling stuck, misunderstood, or unsure where to begin — this is where you start.
