A big thank you to Mark Hickcox and The Victory Racing Plate Company for the trip of a lifetime! We had a great time working with Stockmans Supplies and the farriers in Brisbane and Sydney. And thank you to Adam Burnett, Angel Flores, and Dakota Baze for taking great care of our customers while I have been on the road!

Thank you to The Victory Racing Plate Company & Bellota Rasps for sponsoring part of the clinic hosted by the Alabama Professional Farriers AssociationFarrier Association . This was a great experience packed with different topics, tasks, and challenges that tested our abilities.

We started the day rebuilding and re-tempering a set of pull-offs. Next we rolled into a financial discussion where I covered “The True Cost of Shoeing A Horse”.

During the live demo we focused on trimming and how to get heels to settle- the horse we were working with had jammed up heels. We worked with glue, starting with glueing on one steel Hanton Horseshoe and one aluminum Hanton Horseshoe on the other foot. I demonstrated the removal process of Hanton Horseshoes on the aluminum side. We replaced and direct glued a different shoe in its place.

We worked on a hand made swedged bar shoe for a racehorse and finished the day by making a pair of pull-offs out of a rasp.

By 3:30 we were finished with a clinic so full of information, engagement and learning that you felt glad to be a part of this clinic. It is a pretty cool feeling when you are pushed to your limits and are able to cover such a wide variety of things. Thank you to the Alabama Farriers Association and everyone who came out.

It’s easy to get locked into habits and systems and familiarities. You find something you like, and you never reach beyond it….

It’s good to be comfortable and happy with a tool or a system, but every once in a while, it’s good to step out of your comfort zone and test something new / something different.
