🌟 Please join us in congratulating our Star of The Week, Ms. Gnat! 🌟
Ms. Gnat was admitted to The Waters of Shelbyville following a hospitalization for septic shock, arriving in need of significant assistance and support. Upon admission, she required moderate assistance with transfers and demonstrated fair-minus balance. She was able to ambulate only 5 feet with a rolling walker with moderate assistance. She required total assistance with toileting and moderate assistance with bathing and dressing.
From the very beginning, Ms. Gnat approached her recovery with determination and resilience. Over the course of her 41-day stay, she worked diligently with our therapy team to rebuild her strength, endurance, and balance. Through consistent participation and hard work, she made steady and meaningful progress.
Today, Ms. Gnat is able to transfer with contact guard assistance and maintain fair balance. She can ambulate 50 feet with standby assistance, a tremendous improvement from where she started. She now completes toileting with minimal assistance, performs dressing with standby assistance, and bathes with contact guard assistance. She has also regained the ability to independently propel her wheelchair 300 feet, demonstrating improved upper body strength and functional endurance.
We are incredibly proud of the progress Ms. Gnat has made and the perseverance she showed throughout her recovery journey. It has been an honor to be part of her rehabilitation, and we are so glad she is able to return home stronger and more independent.
Ms. Gnat, you will truly be missed — we wish you continued health, happiness, and success in this next chapter!
