August Resident Spotlight! ✨
This months we are thrilled to celebrate Colleen, who has reached an incredible milestone—100 years young! 🥳 Colleen grew up on a dairy farm in Marshalltown and later made her home in Janesville, where she became an active member of her church, women’s group, American Legion Auxiliary, and REBEKAH, and many other community groups, even holding the honor of being the oldest active member in many of these organizations.
Colleen’s career path took her from working as a secretary to retiring from Wartburg College, where she supported the dean of faculty and later the college president and board of regions. Her days have always been filled with dedication and hard work, a quality she continues to inspire in others. 🤝
Even now, Colleen loves staying involved in her community, baking treats for friends and neighbors (sometimes starting as early as 3 a.m.), researching her family’s history, and writing her own life story. She treasures her large and loving family, which includes 4 children, 6 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. 🥧
When asked about favorite memories, Colleen fondly recalls riding ponies with her sister during the Great Depression, delivering baked goods and riding to town or school together. 🐴 Her advice for youth is simple but powerful: “Always be kind to everyone. If you are a hard worker, you will go far in life.”
We are so blessed to have Colleen as part of our community and to celebrate such a special milestone with her! 🧡
