The good news? The parents are right! The bad news? Now you have to do something about it!

There are a number of simple, practical steps that families can take -- including reducing passive screen time and news consumption, having a structured daily schedule and getting enough sleep -- that can promote resilience against mental health problems in youth during the COVID-19 pandemic, accord...

I was so impressed to see a PRIDE parade in Shelton lead by local youth. Lots of No hate, and native and queer/LGBTQI pride. For those interested in connecting there is a new Facebook group (I don’t know anything about it)

Mindfulness is hard work, but not as hard as the consequences of mindless action. I have certainly been caught in cycles of mindless action: yelling or eating my favorite junk food thoughtlessly come to mind. Today I notice those parts of me that need extra care-taking: the whiny part and the the rager part. It was good to be able to be compassionate with my own experience. I believe that is the first step for right action. Our world needs lots of listening and caretaking.

In a racist society, it is not enough to be non-racist, we must be anti-racist. Angela Y. Davis Race does not biologically exist, yet how we identify with race is so powerful, it influences our experiences and shapes our lives. In a society that privileges white people and whiteness, racist ideas ar...

ONLINE BOOK DISCUSSION

From Timberland Regional Library, a book group hosted by a local Sheltonite on the book, “So you want to talk about race.”

A book reading group (and we love those!), and it is about one of the needs of our community which TRL is currently focusing on, which is Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. So even though we are not sponsoring it, we are happy to share this with you.

This 6-week Zoom book study group will read the book, “So you want to talk about Race” by Ijeoma Oluo, a best-seller described as “a hard-hitting, user-friendly examination of race in America”. Rev. Jeannine Daggett (retired Lutheran pastor, resident of Shelton) will facilitate the study. Email her at pvns2or3@gmail.com if you want to participate. The book is available for download via Overdrive.

10:00 - 11:30 (using Zoom)
Saturdays, July 11 to August 15.

See search results for "So You Want to Talk about Race" in the Timberland Regional Library digital collection.

Greetings!

When I was in graduate school in Pullman, I took a class in mindfulness-based stress reduction, or MBSR as it is known.

The teacher, Dave Potter, allowed me to take the class for the cost of the materials ($35 instead of $250), I think because he understood how expensive school is.

He has continued to be a very generous therapist.

He has made publicly available, with no cost, hidden or otherwise, an on-line course in MBSR.

I know when I took this course 10 years ago, it helped me develop a better understanding of mindfulness and focused attention.

I do not know how long this resource will remain free and publicly available, but other places charge $200-$300 for an on-line MBSR course.

I can briefly tell you that Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (or MBSR) was developed at Massachussetts General Hospital and shows great promise for dealing with anxiety, chronic pain, depression, and improved quality of life.

Dave Potter’s website is https://www.palousemindfulness.com or you can click below

You know how most websites have a link for credit cards? His links are for English and Spanish versions.

Anyway, please let me know if you listen to it or start it, I would be interested in your feedback!

This online MBSR training course is 100% free, created by a fully certified MBSR instructor, and is based on the program founded by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.
