Bob Welke was 36 years old with a loving wife, three children and a position as Senior Vice President at D.W. During his initial stay at Westchester Medical Center, Bob was inspired by the cutting edge research being conducted at Brander Cancer Research Institute (BCRI). He decided to get involved. Later that year, with support from the management team at D.W. Van Dyke & Co., Bob founded The Robert A. Welke Cancer Research Foundation with the purpose of raising and donating money to cancer research. Bob, an avid golfer, kickstarted his fundraising efforts by playing 100 holes of golf at Brooklawn Country Club in Fairfield, CT. He raised over $65,000 in a single day from corporate and individual sponsors. The following year he was back on the course at the Country Club of Fairfield. The two-day, 100-hole event raised over $60,000. After two relapses, Bob lost his battle with leukemia in March of 1996. For the past 29 years, the Welke Family and D.W. Van Dyke & Co., have hosted the “Links to a Cure” Charity Golf Tournament to honor Bob and his mission that began in 1993. To date, the Foundation has donated $1,745,000 to Brander Cancer Research in New York, Yale Cancer Center in New Haven, CT, Gift of Life Marrow Registry in Florida and last year we included donations to Leukemia research being conducted at Montefiore Einstein Hospital and New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York. We are pleased to continue Bob’s effort to support the RAW Cancer Research Foundation with our annual “Links to a Cure” Charity golf tournament on Monday, September 29, 2025 at the Country Club of Darien. Dear Friends and Colleagues,

We are so grateful for your support and contributions to the Robert A. Welke Cancer Research Foundation over the past 22 years.

Your consistent participation in the Links to a Cure golf tournament and generous donations have propelled our mission to support and advance cancer research and treatment. Together, we have raised and donated $1,554,000 to research efforts at Yale Cancer Center and the Pathology Department at New York Medical College. Your donations have purchased research equipment, sponsored fellowships, grants and studies that have led to cutting edge treatments.

Given current circumstances, we have decided to break with tradition by forgoing the Links to a Cure tournament this Fall. We will miss gathering, golfing and post-golf cocktail celebrations with all of you.

In lieu of our tournament, we will continue fundraising efforts through a PayPal Giving Fund to raise money for Yale Cancer Center and the Pathology Department at New York Medical College. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to cancer research.
