Adult male presents with persistent rt arm and hand numbness. His job requires prolonged forward arm posture and occasional overhead arm posture. Numbness has been increasing lately and even wakes him up at times. No history of injury to neck, back, shoulders or arms.
On exam numbness gets worse with arm abducted to 90 degrees and stays numb as arm continues overhead. Rt grip strength is noticeably weaker as compared to lt. Compression to the cervical spine increases the numbness in the rt arm and increases the neck pain. Tender and tight in the rt scalenes, rt levator, bilaterally in the trapezius and cervical erectors. Subluxations apparent in the atlas, lower cervical and upper thoracic spine. Tightness in the pectoralis minor tendons and limited adduction of the rt scapula.
Diagnosis include rt thoracic outlet syndrome caused by vertebral subluxation, upper crossed syndrome and loss of scapular mobility.
Treatments included adjustments to the neck, upper back and rt shoulder. Myofascial release in the neck, upper back and shoulders. Interferential therapy with heat and cold. Exercise to increase scapular mobility, increase flexibility of rt pecs, strengthen the rhomboids and mid trapezius.
Initially treatment required several visits over a few months. Currently has TOS relapses 4-5 times a year and comes in for treatment and pep talk on importance of continuing home exercise.

Elderly Male presents with severe neck, upper back and lower back pain. Has been unable to stand erect or walk without assistance. He has undergone numerous medical procedures including disc removal in the lumbar spine, fusion of his mid thoracic spine, lt hip replacement and multiple injections. He is also on over a dozen prescription medications. He has numerous medical doctor appointment monthly but his pain continues to increase and his function continues to decrease.
Loss of motion throughout the cervical and lumbar spine. Unable to adjust most of the thoracic spine due to fusion. Loss of muscularity in the spinal erectors and glutes. Adjustments consisted of posterior to anterior drops, sustained P-A pressure with some cranial to caudal rotation over the articular pillars, mammillary processes, PSIS and ASIS. Muscle work in the erectors, traps, levators, rhomboids and glutes. Cold laser at 810 nm, interferential therapy and heat. After a few weeks of treatment patient is able to stand and walk without assistance, pain has been consistently reduced and he has hope for the future. I wish that we could have started treatment years ago but it is never too late to improve your well being.

Adult female presents with headaches and difficulty swallowing. She has been having issues with swallowing with some gagging for years. She is forced to eat very slowly with small bites. The gagging causes anxiety and makes her reluctant to eat in public. Mis-aligments are present in the upper cervical spine, mid to upper thoracic spine and sacrum. Forward head posture. Pulse is steady at 68 during inspiration and expiration.
Subluxations are resulting in vagal nerve dysfunction. Treatment includes reduction of the subluxations, interferential therapy and ice. Home parasympathetic breathing and stretching. Initially was under bi-weekly chiropractic care for 2 weeks. Symptoms were greatly reduced in 1 month. Pt is now having minimal issues with consistent monthly care.

Imbibition:
The movement of nutrients, fluids and waste products in and out of the vertebral disc absent a defined blood supply.

Once your growth plates close you no longer have blood vessels carrying nutrients into and waste products out of your intervertebral discs. Loss of motion between vertebrae prevents opening and closing of the disc resulting in no fluid exchange in the disc. Sedentary life limits motion and the pumping of fluids in and out of the disc. Subluxations (mis-aligments) of the vertebrae prevent the vertebrae from moving properly and limit imbibition. Inactivity and subluxation will result in degeneration of the disc. Disc degeneration will cause you pain and disfunction, ultimately limiting your ability to lead a glorious life.

Adult male presents with weakness in his rt shoulder. As a teen he had the same condition in his lt shoulder and underwent surgery to remove pressure from the nerve.

Pt came in to Harbour Chiropractic in the hope that he could avoid another surgery.

On exam the pt has weakness externally rotating his rt arm. He also had a slight tingle in the rt lateral arm that increased with compression of the neck. Disc bulge at C5-C6, Cervical (neck) mis-alignments at C1 and C6. He also had some mis-alignments in the thoracic, lumbar and ilio-sacral areas. Rt teres minor showed some atrophy and was very weak.

Treatment consisted of specific chiropractic adjustments, active release in the neck, upper back and rt shoulder. Cold laser therapy from C4 to C7 and into the rt shoulder.

Patient suffered from a cervical disc bulge with resultant rt cervical radiculopathy.

Pt was treated repetitively for a few weeks as condition improved frequency was reduced. Within 5 weeks Pt reported that his strength was 90% improved. 1 year later the shoulder is still doing great. The disc bulge reduced and healed and the pressure was removed from the cervical nerve root.
