Thank you to Dr. Pria Alpern, for her thoughtful comments on this fascinating study. As someone who uses touch in my work as a trauma therapist (Somatic Experiencing®, Transforming Touch®, and Psychodramatic Bodywork®), I have long known the benefits of somatic containment as it relates to a client’s capacity and willingness to go deeper into their healing. While I understand why practitioners have liability concerns when it comes to touch, their clients are missing out on the benefits of healing on all levels, including somatically.
