Johnnie “Ed” Edward Reed, 82, of Ardmore, Oklahoma, passed away on April 21, 2026. He was known simply as Ed to those who loved him.
Ed was a kind and gentle man who loved his family fiercely. He never missed a chance to make someone smile, and he was known for his big heart and warm hugs. He lived a life rooted in devotion to the people he loved and the community he served. His faith in God was an important part of who he was. His greatest love was his wife, Debra, who passed away in 2014. He loved her deeply and carried that love with him every day.
Ed spent much of his life working in other roles, but his true passion was always the weather. He eventually followed that calling, beginning as a storm chaser, drawn to the power and unpredictability of the skies. That passion grew into a lifetime of service, leading him to serve as the Emergency Management Director for Ardmore and eventually all of Carter County. Through his work, he dedicated himself to protecting and guiding others in times of uncertainty, a role that reflected both his strength and his deep sense of responsibility.
Nothing brought him more joy than being “G-pa” to his grandchildren, a role he embraced with love, laughter, and pride.
Above all, Ed was a family man. He is survived by his daughter, Heather Dees, and son-in-law, Ted Dees; his granddaughters, Harleigh McDonald and Hannah McDonald; his grandson, Zachary Dees and his wife Ashley; and his great-granddaughter, Millie Dees. He is also survived by his sisters, Jeannine Reed, Denise Reed and sister-in-law, Nancie Thomas.
Those who knew Ed will remember his quiet strength, his unwavering love, his sense of humor, and the way he showed up for the people who mattered most. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
The family will honor his life privately.
