October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a time to bring attention to an important issue that affects millions of individuals and families worldwide. Domestic violence can take many forms, including physical, emotional, and financial abuse. It is important to educate ourselves and others about this widespread problem and work towards preventing and ending domestic violence in our communities. Join us this month in raising awareness, supporting survivors, and advocating for change.
Domestic violence can take many forms — and not all of them leave visible bruises. Some signs may include:
Being shouted at, threatened, intimidated, controlled financially, or isolated from friends/family
Physical aggression: pushing, slapping, choking, kicking, sexual assault
Stalking or monitoring behaviours: the partner uses technology to track you, insists on knowing where you are, checks your phone
Psychological threats or coercion: “If you leave, I’ll…”, “You have no one else”, “Don’t tell anyone”, etc.
At Uplift Family Medicine, we want you to know that this is a safe space. If you or someone you care about is experiencing domestic violence — whether physical, emotional, or psychological — we are here to support you with compassion, care, and respect. We can help you with local resources, if needed.

If any of those resonate, your concern is valid.
