Too often, people reach the end of life feeling afraid, overwhelmed, and unsure of what to expect. Families are asked to make complex, life-altering decisions whil

e exhausted, grieving, or under pressure — often without clear explanations or full informed consent. It doesn’t have to be that way. As an End-of-Life Doula and patient advocate, I provide education, guidance, and emotional support to help families understand their options, ask better questions, and navigate hospice and caregiving decisions with greater confidence. Much of my work focuses on supporting families before the final days, when early guidance can ease fear, prevent rushed decisions, and bring a sense of calm and preparedness. Together, we can create space for comfort, clarity, and human-centered care — honoring both the person who is dying and those who walk beside them.

Here is something I see far too often.

A caregiver reaches out once — early in an illness — and then disappears as life becomes busier, more complicated, and more overwhelming. Months later, the phone rings again… after everything is over.

Not because they did anything wrong.
Not because they didn’t care.
But because serious illness has a way of consuming every ounce of time and energy.

Support is most valuable before the crisis — not after it.

In this month’s article, I share a story that illustrates why staying connected during illness can make an enormous difference for caregivers and families.

You don’t have to navigate serious illness alone.

Tomorrow is Earth Day, a day about caring for the future.

For many families, that future includes navigating illness, caregiving, and difficult decisions.

One of the greatest gifts you can give your loved ones is clarity about your wishes before a crisis happens.

Taking care of the Earth matters.
Taking care of your family matters too.

Every spring, they come back...

For years now, a bluebird family has returned to the same nest box in my yard. This morning I looked inside and found these beautiful blue eggs.

In my work, I walk with families through seasons of change — illness, aging, uncertainty. And moments like this remind me that even during difficult times, life and hope continue.

Do you have something in nature that returns to you every year?

When serious illness changes everything, families are often left trying to figure things out quickly and under stress.

My role as a Patient Advocate and End-of-Life Doula is to help bring clarity, calm, and guidance during those moments—whether someone is caring for an aging parent, facing a new diagnosis, or trying to understand hospice options.

Support is available. You don’t have to navigate this alone.

This short video explains the purpose behind my book, How to Choose the Right Hospice.

After years of working with families, I saw a consistent pattern—people were making life-changing decisions without clear information or guidance. This guide was created to give families practical questions, clarity, and confidence during a very vulnerable time.

Preparation doesn’t remove the difficulty, but it can reduce fear and uncertainty.

Most families make hospice decisions in moments of fear or urgency — but taking time to research and interview hospices agencies, can help you choose the rig...

This is something I counsel people on often. Our healthcare system tends to prioritize more treatment and longer survival, but many patients are really trying to understand what those treatments mean for their quality of life. Having honest conversations and understanding all the options—including when treatment may not be the right choice—is incredibly important.

Study finds that 8% prioritized extending life, while 72% prioritized maintaining QoL
