The holidays are supposed to be magical — but between family drama, financial stress, and the pressure to make everything perfect, it can feel more like survival mode.

This week on the blog, we’re talking about how to set boundaries, stay grounded, and actually enjoy the season (or at least make it through without losing your cool).

You deserve peace this season — not perfection.

Real talk: Setting a boundary doesn’t make you difficult, demanding, or “too much.” It makes you HONEST. It makes you someone who knows their worth and isn’t willing to negotiate it away just to keep the peace.

Think of boundaries like this — you wouldn’t let someone drain your car’s oil without replacing it. You wouldn’t let them use your favorite sweater without asking. So why do we let people drain our emotional energy without a second thought?

Here’s what healthy boundaries actually do:
- Protect your peace (not punish anyone else)
- Keep your relationships real instead of resentful
- Give you permission to say “no” without guilt
- Show people how to treat you.

And yeah, setting them can feel uncomfortable at first. That’s normal. You’re probably used to people-pleasing, over-explaining, or apologizing for your needs. But boundaries aren’t selfish — they’re self-respect.

Your boundary doesn’t need to be justified, debated, or defended. It just needs to be clear. If you’re struggling to set boundaries or feeling guilty about protecting your peace, that’s exactly what we’re here for. Therapy isn’t just about processing the past — it’s about building a life where you don’t have to shrink yourself to make room for everyone else. You matter too. 💚

Dr James Wilkins, LPC is sharing his thoughts on gratitude during the Thanksgiving Holiday! Protect your peace and give yourself permission to set boundaries and follow them. You don’t have to attend every event or be in every conversation, choose the moments that feel right and safe, take pauses even if it is 5 minutes to step away to ground and breathe. It’s essential to staying present in the moment.
