An estimated 25 million Americans suffer from daily, chronic pain, and many rely on opioid medications to manage that pain. Today, with opioid addiction rates at epidemic levels, the need for alternative, effective forms of pain treatment is crucial.
On Friday, April 5 at 11:30 a.m. Council on Chemical Abuse (COCA) will host a Lunch & Learn that addresses compassionate alternatives to opioids for pain management at Reading Central Branch YMCA in the 2nd floor meeting room, located at 631 Washington Street, Reading, PA 19601. This event is free and open to the public. Space is limited and registration is required.
The topic will be presented by Akintomi Olugbodi, M.D., a fellowship-trained Interventional Pain Medicine Physician, a Neurologist and an Internist, which allows him to provide the most comprehensive diagnosis in determining the origins of pain and the best solutions for pain relief. His education and experience offer a unique perspective to healing.
During his hour-long presentation, he will discuss conditions that cause chronic pain such as spinal stenosis, disc herniation, sciatica, complex regional pain syndrome and lower back pain following back surgery.
Dr. Olugbodi will review effective methods for managing pain without opioid medications. Such procedures include, but are not limited to, epidural steroid injections, radiofrequency neurotomy and spinal cord stimulation therapy. All options can be personalized to a patient’s condition.
This Lunch & Learn is part of a series of monthly, hour-long, lunch time programs offered by COCA. All programs address issues related to addiction, treatment and prevention and are offered at no cost. A pizza lunch is provided.
