After a car accident you should not ignore back pain, AT ALL. The initial impact usually causes hidden injuries, and the adrenaline and shock can mask symptoms that may show up after the accident and after the adrenaline wears down. Pain can often appear days later, and you don’t want to miss serious, sometimes permanent, conditions that you may not feel initially. What you should do is contact Axis Spine and Orthopedics immediately, even if the pain isn’t immediate. We will be able to evaluate you to see if there is pain and to further investigate pain that you might be feeling from the car accident. If pain persists, we can recommend some of our services like physical therapy, injections, and lastly minimally invasive surgery.

Sitting all day for some people can feel or even be natural to their day-to-day routine. Even though it may be comfortable, it does impact your spine in many ways. Some of the most detrimental things include increased disc pressure, musculoskeletal stiffness and weakness, poor posture, reduced circulation, chronic pain, and tightened hip flexors. All of these affect the spine negatively and can cause lack of blood flow, compression in your spine, bulging disc, and weakness in your supporting spine muscles overtime. There are things that can mitigate the damage and lessen discomfort or pain when sitting. Some of these include taking frequent breaks every 30-60 minutes, using proper ergonomics and making sure your chair supports your back properly, using a lumbar support pillow behind your lower back, and occasionally switching positions so the discomfort doesn’t continue while sitting. Sitting can be comfortable, but for the best posture and spine comfort always alternate between sitting and standing. Being in one position too long can be the main cause of most of these symptoms.

"The employees here are special, they take their time to get to know you and understand your injuries. From every pain to every question I asked they were there to walk me thru every moment. Mrs Nikki is a bright rare of sunshine, Always smiling, laughing and went over every concern I had she went above and beyond. As for therapy, I had the pleasure of working with both Travis and Polly who took their time with me, listened to my concerns, we weighed all options when it came to what I wanted to do and what they knew I could do. They were patient with me, my work schedule and really took the time to know me. If I had one word to explain my experience, I would say OUTSTANDING!! Last but not least, the receptionist staff are always smiling and greet everyone by first name basis! Anyone from Grace to Mellissa this is not just a team it’s a family. If you are looking for a friendly, loving, patient and kind place Axis is it. I would recommend them a million times again and again."

What is ACDF and why would it be needed? (after non-surgical methods are exhausted)

ACDF, also known as Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion, is a surgery that removes a damaged, degenerated or herniated disc in the cervical spine, a.k.a. your neck. This procedure is done from the front and fuses together the disc adjacent to the bad disc for stability. People who are candidates for this procedure often experience severe neck pain, radiating arm pain, numbness, tingling or weakness in the arms that is caused by nerve compression. This can also reduce your range of motion, cause muscle spasms and can cause fine motor skill difficulties. ACDF is recommended if non-surgical options are exhausted.
