With the Super Bowl ending last night, football is top of mind and so is the toll the sport can take on the spine. Football-related injuries like neck strains, herniated discs, and nerve irritation, are often caused by repeated impact, poor tackling form, or lack of core and neck strength.

The good news? Many spinal injuries are preventable with proper technique, targeted strengthening, and allowing time for recovery. As you enjoy the big game, remember protecting your spine is just as important as playing hard and Axis Spine and Orthopedics is here when you need expert care. 🏈

Some of the best activities for a healthy spine include building core strength and improving flexibility. These exercises or activities include but are not limited to; yoga, swimming, Pilates, cycling, and walking. These activities tend to involve strengthening the core and the muscles surrounding the spine which is very important for a healthy spine. Certain positions in yoga or Pilates may work on your core or even relieve the pressure buildup we sometimes feel in our spine by stretching and flexing our spine in safe but different ways. Swimming, cycling, and walking are good ways to get cardio in and have also very low impact on the joints and bones in our body. This helps weight management while also giving your body the movement and activity it needs. If feeling spine or orthopedic pain or discomfort, don’t hesitate to reach out to Axis Spine & Orthopedics today for a consultation! https://axissurgeons.com/what-are-the-best-activities-for-a-healthy-spine/
