We appreciate these kind words shared with us, "I have never worked with anyone like Allen and Kitty Dugan, all the times I've been through something like this. They are so understanding, just down to earth people. We didn't know if we could afford everything we wanted to do for Bob's mother's funeral. Allen made some suggestions, and we still felt that we got done what we wanted. He even took time on a Saturday to meet at the cemetery to show us samples of stones that could work with the finances we had. They're great people, not 'all business,' just wonderful to work with, and seemed more like family!" -Linda and Robert (Bob) Huffaker

Gerald E. Settle

Gerald Eugene Settle, age 86 of Biglerville, passed away September 11, 2025 at home. He was born December 19, 1938 in Gettysburg to the late Edward John and Blanche Ellen (Cool) Settle.

Gerald was an electrician having started out with his father at Settle’s Electric and then going on to work for Kleinfelter’s Electric and Hall’s Electric before becoming an electrical inspector. After retirement, he owned Mels Antiques. Gerald was an avid fly fisherman and could do anything and everything. If he was not at work, he could be found either at his fishing stream or remodeling his home. If he didn’t know how to do something, he would figure it out and do it himself. Gerald was very proud of his heritage and after purchasing a John Settle Kentucky flintlock rifle, he built his own and also built five pistols and was a talented engraver and that showed on the guns he built. He loved collecting guns and had a large collection. He enjoyed restoring old furniture, but most of all, he loved being a jokester and loved to tease with his sense of humor. Being a self-taught photographer, Gerald became very proficient at waiting to capture the perfect shot. From waiting for two swans to meet to make a perfect heart, to capturing a hummingbird in perfect flight, he loved photographing nature at its finest and had the patience to do it. Along with nature photos of waterfalls and scenery, Gerald loved taking historical photos.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Jane Kathleen (Callahan) Settle who he celebrated 67 years of marriage with on August 9, 2025; his children, Kelly Ann Jackson and husband, Robert of Shippensburg, Tracy Jean Settle of Aspers, Timothy Joseph Settle and significant other, Donna Claassen of Orrtanna, Douglas Eugene Settle and wife, Christy of York Springs and Amy Louise Settle and husband, Michael Mummert of Orrtanna; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and sister, Yvonne Lau and husband, Wayne of New Oxford. He was preceded in death by a grandson and his brother, John Settle.

Professional services have been entrusted to Dugan Funeral & Cremation, Ltd., 111 S. Main Street, Bendersville. At Gerald’s request, there will be no viewing. A private Celebration of Life service will be held at the family’s convenience. To leave a condolence for the family, please visit DuganFH.com.
