When we step into the gym, we focus on the workout. The programmed movements, prescribed weights, skill, etc. But there’s an invisible weight we bring to the gym: EGO. For many it can be the heaviest weight of all, impacting progress, mindset, and the ability to be coachable.
🔹Comparison Trap: Ego whispers that you need to outdo the person next to you. But remember, the only person you need to be better than is the person you were yesterday. Be proud of YOUR work, not your place on the leaderboard.
🔹Poor Mechanics & Injury: Ego might push you to lift heavier or skip important skill progressions which is unsafe and can lead to injury. If you want results, master the basics and perfect your movement mechanics. Build that foundation and you’ll be able to safely add intensity to your workout.
🔹Overtraining: Ego can drive you to thinking more is better. True strength comes from knowing when to push and when to rest. Balance is 🔑 and recovery is where the magic happens.
Ego can be a significant obstacle in the gym but recognizing its presence and actively working to shed it will allow us to achieve more sustainable and fulfilling progress. Fitness is not just about physical strength; it’s also about mental resilience and self-awareness.
Leave your ego at the door and focus on becoming the best version of yourself 👊
