Not "news" but I am concerned that most people are still being sold a false narrative about cholesterol and statin use.
It has been known, throughout healthcare, that total cholesterol numbers and more specifically LDL-C (bad cholesterol) levels have ABSOLUTELY NO BEARING on the risk of Cardiovascular disease (heart disease), stroke or heart attack(1). Yet, Primary Care Physicians are still pushing statins on every person with a Total Cholesterol over 150.
Not only has it been "debunked" that cholesterol levels can cause heart attack and stroke, but artificially lowering the natural cholesterol levels by use of statins is one of the greatest causes of the dementia epidemic we are witnessing here in the USA by limiting the amount of repair and replacement the body can do to damaged and aging myelin in the nervous system and the brain. The myelin is the "white matter" in the brain and is made up mainly of lipids or cholesterol.
