Come meet an amazing community, super talented artists, and support a great local organization! As a part of Open Shops Shorewood, Craft is hosting Pay What You Can Night in support of Gigi’s Playhouse! Gigi’s Playhouse is a Milwaukee resource and non-profit organization that works to uplift people who have Down syndrome and their families with free educational, therapeutic, and career based development programs. Don’t miss an awesome opportunity to hang out with a kickass team and support a vital local resource 🖤

We will be providing 30 minute dry haircut sessions in exchange for a donation toward Gigis!

We are so very excited to introduce you to our newest stylist to join the Craft team, meet Teagan. They graduated from beauty school recently and is starting their career at Craft. When not doing awesome color work or cool haircuts, Teagan loves to create art, play video games and spend time with their friends and fiancé. If you’re looking for a creative haircut or color, their books are now open at their model rate of $35 an hour. We look forward to seeing you in their chair soon!

Our salon doesn’t have a front desk of any kind. Why?

There’s a few reasons. First, it’s 2023, and the world is digital. We implement a user-friendly booking and point of sale app that your stylist has full access to. They can check you out with about two clicks, your card is on file, and there’s no waiting. With hourly pricing, there’s no need to worry about a tip line, so it is just so easy.

We are cashless. Counting and stocking a cash drawer isn’t necessary, cash is dirty, and it makes accounting so seamless being fully credit card based. Plus having a computer and a cash drawer can be a magnet for break-ins (trust me, it’s happened to salons I’ve owned more than once.)

We don’t sell retail in our salon, so having someone up front to stock and dust shelves and bag your products isn’t a thing. There’s a handy link on our website if you want to purchase products we recommend.

It also leaves us room to grow and employ stylists in that space, and helps our business be more profitable and financially healthy.

We want to be a place that represents the future of the salon industry, not the past. Going deskless just makes sense.

“Why does it matter, it’s been that way forever!”

Because we have raised our consciousness as individuals and want to create a place where EVERYONE feels welcome. Not every person fits in a box of the gender normative, but most of them have hair, and want to feel seen and validated, which is a huge part of what a hair service offers. Plus, truly, hair is hair. It has nothing to do with a gender, that’s an old societal norm we aren’t interested in perpetuating. We ask you your pronouns when you book, we use them during your appointment, and we charge everyone the same hourly price set by your stylist.

This is yet another reason we price hourly. It just takes those descriptions out of the conversation.

Hair is hair. It’s not a gender. Just come get great hair, everyone is welcome here.

A few things we believe in, starting with how we charge.

Hourly pricing is a choice we made to keep the cost transparent, for us to charge equally for our time and not make pricing based on gender or age. We also charge a rate we find reflects our skill and cost investment, so there’s no need for you to worry about tipping and feel the awkwardness that can create. It’s just easier for everyone.
