The collective vision at Spirit of the Lake Yoga is to provide a full-spectrum experience of health and healing in which the spiritual and emotional well-being of each student is as much the focus as the physical. Located in the heart of Excelsior, Minnesota, Spirit of the Lake Yoga & Wellness Center welcomes clients and students to a gorgeous, light-filled studio dedicated to group classes, workshops, and teacher trainings; and an elegant and private treatment room for holistic health consultations and bodywork. Our intention is not only to serve the immediate community of the Lakes Region, but also appeal to the greater Twin Cities metro area as a destination for those seeking a holistic alternative to personal health and wellness.

Come As You Are

You don’t have to be energized.
You don’t have to be flexible.
You don’t have to be caught up or consistent.

You can come tired.
You can come stiff.
You can come carrying a long week.

There are bolsters.
There are blankets.
There is space to lie down.

Our job is to hold the room.
Your job is just to show up.

We’d love to see you.

The spirit of Yoga: Oneness, Connection and Compassion💓

Spirit of the Lake Community, This past month has had us reflecting on how we practice yoga individually and also as a collective out into the world. Yoga derives from the Sanskrit word yuj, which means to unite. The practice of Yoga reminds us of our inter connectivity and oneness and calls for com...

Sometimes people are surprised when they cry in yoga.
They wonder if it’s normal.

It is.

When the body slows down and the breath deepens, the nervous system can begin to feel safe enough to soften. When that happens, emotions may surface naturally. Tears aren’t a sign that something is wrong - they’re often a sign of release.

Yoga doesn’t ask us to perform or hold it together.
It invites honesty, softness, and presence.
It invites us to meet what’s here, without judgment.

For many, the studio becomes a place where the body knows it’s okay to let go.
A place where it’s safe to feel, to breathe, to be human.

Whether tears come or not, all of you is welcome here -
a space to arrive fully, exactly as you are. 🧘‍♀️🧘‍♂️

This Friday, January 30, our studio will be closed for in‑studio classes as we hold space for rest, reflection, and community care.

As a yoga studio, we believe in supporting human dignity, care for one another, and conscious engagement with the world around us.

On Friday, if you are registering for classes, and you do not have an active membership or package, you may register for one class by selecting the complimentary class option - the class doesn't have to be on Friday 😉

May our practice continue to be a place of steadiness, compassion, and care for ourselves and our neighbors.

Rooted Flow (virtual) is still on for 8-9:15am Friday

I was due to share the final Yama, aparigraha, often described as the practice of non-grasping or letting go of attachment. But with everything unfolding right now, I found myself pausing. I’ve been living this practice in quiet ways, but I struggled to find language that didn’t bypass the weight of this moment or diminish the seriousness of what we’re moving through.

In times like these, aparigraha doesn’t feel like letting go of what we care about. It feels more like loosening our grip on needing answers, timelines, or the “right” response.

It’s not spiritual detachment. It’s not pretending things don’t matter. And it’s not asking us to move on before we’re ready.

For me, the practice has been allowing today to be enough, meeting what’s here without demanding clarity from it.

If this practice feels out of reach right now, that’s okay. Some seasons ask us to hold life with more care. These teachings aren’t fixed; they are living practices. We flow with them, returning again and again, rebalancing our relationship to them as life asks different things of us.

With care,
Niki 💜

We believe that holding space for practice and community is in alignment with the conscience of this Friday’s Day of Truth and Freedom. We stand in solidarity with our broader community in resisting ongoing harm to Minnesota residents, including violations of constitutional rights affecting us and our neighbors.

We will be closed for business, but open for practice and community.

On Friday, if you are registering for classes, and you do not have an active membership or package, you may register for one class by selecting the complimentary class option - the class doesn't have to be on Friday ;-)

May our practice continue to be a place of steadiness and care.

Breaking Hearts Vigil
Friday, Jan 23, 2026
7-8:15 pm
Donation-based

Our Minnesota communities are carrying a great deal right now. Many of us are feeling the weight of recent events - grief, fear, confusion, anger, and deep sadness - and each person is holding this moment in their own way.

Our bodies, hearts, and minds can only hold so much. Gathering in community can be a way to remember that we are not alone.

You are invited to come together for an evening grief vigil - a gentle space to tend to your heart alongside others. Together, we will move softly, breathe, and meditate, offering care to ourselves and extending strength and love into our wider community.

This is a donation-based event; all are welcome, and you are invited to contribute what you can. Donations will go to Loaves and Fishes which supports food access in Minnesota. Cash donations accepted at the event, with a suggested donation of $20. Or you can contribute online to our fundraiser here: https://secure.qgiv.com/event/loavesfishesp2p/team/1017734/

Please RSVP so we know that you are coming.
