It’s been awhile since I posted a video but I want to share some info on oral estradiol. When we weigh risk and benefit we reach for the option with the lowest risk profile, which is transdermal (patch, gel, spray) estradiol. But sometimes this doesn’t absorb well or fit into your routine, and the risk with oral estradiol is still low, similar to birth control pills.
If you don’t have any other risk factors, oral estradiol is a great option for HRT, as it works well, is convenient, and provides a nice steady level of estradiol daily!

Why does it seem like the current experience is different from the past? It may be that it wasn’t adequately discussed or researched in the past. It could also be a bit of these factors.

😷 COVID
- Many women experienced menstrual changes after being ill with COVID or receiving the vaccine. Others experienced longer than expected recovery times. We won’t know for a long time about long term health effects but we know in the short term that, for some, there were cardiovascular and liver changes.
- There was a huge change in lifestyle, routine and responsibilities with everyone at home. Then the rebound of feeling busier than ever upon our return to normal!
- There was an uptick in fear and anxiety.

📱Smartphones
- Remember when your brain knew how to wait in line, sit at a stoplight, ride up an elevator, and have dinner with friends without the constant tug of your virtual life? There are changes to the brain based on tech and new habits!
- And I know you know this one already- the unhealthy (mental and physical) doomscrolling

📰 Unlimited access to news and events
- Yes, news and politics always existed. Scary world events have always occurred. But we didn’t always have access to it 24/7/365 everywhere we look, listen, read.

🎉 And there are good things too!
- Increased women’s health research
- New legislation to educate providers
- More experts and books to inform us
- Women’s Health menopause/perimenopause specialists at !!!

Our practice philosophy too! 💜

Women are smart. They can understand risk, benefit, and uncertainty when we actually take the time to explain it.
My job isn’t to decide for women. It’s to give them the information they need so they can make the right decision
