A study of nearly 26,000 women found that those who followed a Mediterranean diet had 25% less risk of developing heart disease over the course of 12 years! 🙌 The study found that changes in inflammation, blood sugar, and body mass index were the biggest drivers.

➡️How the Mediterranean Diet Reduces Heart Disease Risk:
- Reduction of lipids (LDL cholesterol)
- Reduction of blood pressure
- Protection against oxidative stress, inflammation, and platelet aggregation (clotting)
- Lower presence of atherosclerosis

The Mediterranean Diet is:

We’re thrilled to welcome Dr. Linn to Lakeside!

With nearly a decade of experience as a nurse practitioner, Dr. Linn brings a deeply compassionate, integrative approach to care. Her clinical focus includes hormonal imbalances, GI health, autoimmune conditions, and thyroid issues, all informed by her own personal journey with complex diagnosis and healing.

Dr. Linn believes that healing is not one-size-fits-all. She takes the time to listen, dig deeper, and empower patients with tools and education to take charge of their health.

In addition to her role at Lakeside, she continues to serve her community through behavioral health, public health outreach, and leadership in the Metro Milwaukee Nurse Practitioners Board.

I’ll be honest, dementia terrifies me. But I’m not just worried; I’m taking action. 💪

Losing three family members to Alzheimer’s has made me acutely aware of the devastating impact it can have on individuals and families.

For me, protecting my brain health 🧠 is a top priority, and that’s why I’ve adopted the Mediterranean diet as a non-negotiable part of my daily routine, and I’ve spent the past year delving into the research on how the Mediterranean diet and lifestyle can support brain health.

✨Research has shown that the Mediterranean diet can reduce the risk of developing Alzheimer’s or another type of dementia by as much as 53%. ✨

Studies have consistently shown that a Mediterranean-style diet can have a significant impact on brain health and The World Health Organization specifically recommends following a Mediterranean diet to decrease dementia risk.

So, what can you do to protect your brain health? Here are a few non-negotiables that I’ve incorporated into my daily routine:

🥗 Follow the Mediterranean diet
🫐 Load up on brain-healthy foods like walnuts, blueberries, tea, and salmon
🚶‍♀️ Move my body daily

For the past year, I've been immersed in research on the Mediterranean diet and lifestyle, exploring its powerful benefits: supporting heart health, taming inflammation, lowering cancer risk, and reducing the risk of Alzheimer's. The culmination of this journey was an incredible trip to Greece.

My time in Greece, particularly in the Blue Zone of Ikaria, was truly eye-opening and inspiring. I didn't just learn about a diet –I fell in love with a way of life that prioritizes connection, community, and cooking with a lot of plants and a lot of love.💛

The food in Greece is alive, the people are alive!

While everyone’s obsessed with protein (and yes, it’s absolutely important!), let’s also give FIBER the spotlight it deserves.💡

Did you know 95% of Americans aren’t getting the recommended 30 grams daily? Time to change that!

✨Why fiber is essential:
· Lowers cholesterol (bye, heart disease risk)
· Helps with weight loss (keeps you full and boosts your natural GLP-1 production - hello, natural Ozempic)
· Supports gut health (feeds good bacteria and prevents constipation)
· Balances hormones (aids in estrogen metabolite excretion)
· Reduces colon cancer risk (increases stool bulk, dilutes carcinogens, and decreases transit time)

Time to give fiber the love it deserves! ♥️

⚠️But a word of caution:
If fiber makes you feel worse (constipation, gas, bloating), it might be a sign of SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth). Heal your gut first, then gradually increase fiber for best results.
