Supporting families through complex life challenges is one way Summit Healthcare cares for our community beyond clinical care. Stability, access to resources, and advocacy all play a role in long-term health and well-being.

A parent working to regain custody of a child faced multiple barriers, including unemployment and transportation challenges. Summit staff advocated on the parent’s behalf, helped coordinate support services, and provided transportation to job interviews. With these supports in place, the parent achieved stable employment, continued sobriety, and successful family reunification.

In one week, we received 207 additional survey responses! Where did they land?
of Winslow pulled far ahead of last week's neck-and neck with Holbrook and jumped up to swipe 3rd place away from of Pinetop-Lakeside!

Every three years, our Navajo County Health District surveys our communities in order to identify health issues and guide future goals in programs in our area.
The survey opened February 2nd, and we're seeing an impressive response from our communities. Take a look and see where your community ranks!

*Note: some communities were combined based on geographical proximity to the nearest school district. Examples: Holbrook's total includes responses from Sun Valley and Woodruff. Winslow's total includes responses from Dilkon. Heber-Overgaard's total includes responses from Clay Springs, etc...

Preventing injuries before they happen is one way Summit Healthcare cares for our community beyond clinical care. By focusing on strength, balance, and mobility, we help residents stay healthy, active, and independent.

Staff from Summit’s Emergency Department regularly teach tai chi classes to local residents as a way to improve balance, build strength, and reduce the risk of falls. This proactive approach helps keep people safe and strong, and supports long-term wellness by reducing preventable injuries that can lead to emergency visits or hospital stays.

As part of our 2026 Community Health Needs Survey, we will review the data and develop a Community Health Improvement Plan to share in our final report.

At Summit Healthcare, caring for our community includes easing the real-life burdens that come with serious illness. For patients receiving cancer treatment, travel and lodging can add stress on top of an already demanding journey. Summit works to remove those barriers whenever possible.

A patient traveled a long distance to receive cancer treatment at Summit. Without the advanced services available locally, that travel would have been even farther. When the patient declined a hotel stay because they could not be separated from their pet, Summit teams worked together to create space on campus with access to water and electricity so the patient could stay in their RV. That way, he could rest between treatments, avoid dangerous winter travel, and focus on what mattered most - healing.

Because of this support, the patient was able to complete treatment without the added stress of travel, lodging, or finding care for their pet. It’s another example of how Summit cares for the whole person, beyond healthcare alone.

QuidelOrtho is a key partner in our laboratory operations, supporting both Integrated Chemistry and Blood Bank services. From January 28–31, their mobile training unit provided hands-on Advanced Operator Training for laboratory professionals from Summit Healthcare, Little Colorado Medical Center, Whiteriver Hospital, and White Mountain Regional Medical Center.

In total, 12 laboratory staff members participated in four-hour courses focused on advanced maintenance, troubleshooting, and best practices. The sessions also created space for collaboration across regional facilities and allowed participants to earn continuing education credits to support their certifications.

Opportunities like this strengthen our regional laboratory community and ensure we continue delivering high-quality patient care through ongoing learning and partnership.

When a baby arrived earlier than expected, one new mother faced immediate challenges and limited resources. Summit staff quickly coordinated donated baby items and community support, helping ensure both mother and child had what they needed to thrive.
