April is National Donate Life Month. 💙💚

Today, Summit Healthcare recognized this important observance with a flag-raising ceremony. Prior to the ceremony, an Honor Walk was held in remembrance of those who have given the gift of life through organ and tissue donation.

Mitzi Melero, CNO, opened the event by recognizing the dedication of our teams. While Summit is not a donation facility, the coordination provided by our staff plays a vital role in the lives touched by donation.

The program also included remarks from Sam Perry, Summit’s Donate Life Coordinator, who highlighted the impact of our work across Arizona. Through Summit Healthcare’s coordination, three lives have been saved and 28 lives have been healed over the past 15 months. The event concluded with powerful stories from two organ recipients, reminding us of the lasting difference donation makes and how they continue to honor their donors by giving back.

If you would like to make a difference, consider becoming a donor at https://register.donatelifeaz.org/register/ or visit our donation tables at the main hospital throughout April to sign up in person. Stop by to learn more, enjoy giveaways, and take part in our rock painting station to help spread awareness.

It's Thursday and that means we have a weekly update on who is showing up in force to represent their community in responding to our Health Needs Assessment Survey!

This week, Show Low maintained the lead once again!

Why do these results matter? Your survey results are making a difference in the health of your communities!

Every three years, our Navajo County Health District surveys our communities in order to identify health issues and guide future goals in programs in our area.
Your input is crucial in guiding our Health Department's future focus, and your representation of local health needs directly serves and impacts your community!

*Note: some communities were combined based on geographical proximity to the nearest school district. Examples: Holbrook's total includes responses from Sun Valley and Woodruff. Winslow's total includes responses from Dilkon. Heber-Overgaard's total includes responses from Clay Springs, etc...
The survey closes out on April 30th.

This week's rankings:

White Mountain businesses can help support Child Abuse Prevention Month. Pick up a free yard sign from Summit Healthcare and display it at your business this April. 💙

Each year, Summit Healthcare recognizes Child Abuse Prevention Month with a Pinwheel Garden honoring the children affected by abuse in Navajo and Apache counties.

Unfortunately, in 2025, there were 801 reported cases of child abuse in our two counties, with three resulting in the loss of a young life. Each pinwheel is a reminder that prevention matters and every child deserves to be safe.

This April, we invite White Mountain businesses to help promote awareness by displaying a free Child Abuse Prevention yard sign in front of their business as a visible show of support for the children in our communities.

Pickup details:
- Summit Healthcare Administrative Services Building | 4951 S. White Mountain Rd., Bldg C, Show Low, AZ 85901, 2nd Floor - Administration
- Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
- One sign per business
