K-9 Nero is a Belgian Malinois born on March 3, 2015. Nero began service with Caddo Parish Sheriffs Office on August 17, 2019 and was retired in February 2024, where he went to live with the Keene family. Nero passed away due to cancer on Sunday, March 15, 2026 at the age of 11.

He was a hero who gave his heart, strength and years of service to our parish. He wasn’t just a partner to his handler; he was a shield, a steady heartbeat on tough nights. He ran towards danger so nobody else had to. His duty is done, but his legacy will forever walk beside us. Rest easy, brave old man, we have the watch from here.
