Today was special for so many reasons.

Birthdays are always a time of reflection for me, but this year, I wanted to do something that truly mattered. Being able to give back by donating Easter eggs to two schools reminded me of what it’s really all about; serving others.

There’s no better feeling than seeing smiles on children’s faces and knowing you played a small part in making their day a little brighter. That meant more to me than anything I could’ve received.

I’m grateful for another year of life, another opportunity to serve, and another chance to make a difference in the community that has given so much to me.

“At Shreveport Funeral Home & Cremation Tribute Center, Black History Month is more than a moment on the calendar it’s a reminder of the legacy that lives all around us.

This month, we chose to shine a light on local African Americans because history isn’t only written in textbooks it’s written in our neighborhoods, our churches, our schools, and our families.

The men and women we are honored are pillars of this community. Their service, leadership, faith, and commitment have helped shape Shreveport into the city it is today. Too often, their contributions go unrecognized while they are still here to receive their flowers.

As a funeral home rooted in compassion, dignity, and service, we believe it’s our responsibility to honor legacy; not only at the end of life, but throughout life.

Black history is local. It’s personal. And it deserves to be celebrated.

We are proud to highlight these trailblazers, culture-keepers, and change-makers who continue to inspire us all.

On behalf of myself, Brandon L. Patterson Sr. and the entire Shreveport Funeral Home family thank you for allowing us to celebrate our history, our people, and our community.”
