Important Medicaid Update — Action Required for January 1

Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) has announced that it is ending the Medicaid contracts with UnitedHealthCare of Louisiana, effective Jan. 1. That means thousands of Louisiana residents will need to be re-assigned to a different Medicaid Managed Care Plan.

At this time, Elevance Health (parent company of Healthy Blue) and the other contracted plans will continue to provide coverage.

If you or your clients are currently insured under UnitedHealthCare, LDH will automatically move you to one of the remaining contracted Medicaid plans.

➡️ Please review the full announcement here: https://lailluminator.com/2025/12/09/louisiana-abruptly-cuts-two-medicaid-contracts-putting-care-options-for-488500-in-limbo/

If you need help identifying what your new plan will be or want to switch plans once the change takes effect, contact LDH or your plan provider as soon as possible.

Gov. Jeff Landry’s administration is abruptly ending contracts with two of the six companies that provide Medicaid insurance in Louisiana, a move that could leave 488,500 residents uncertain of what health care they will have starting Jan. 1.
