🌟 Day 4 of our AHEAD Program! 🌟

Today our local high school students learned about our Master of Public Health program and tested their knowledge with a fun vaccine trivia game! 💉🧠 We wrapped up the day exploring the Occupational Therapy program, where they tried out the driving simulator 🚗 and visited the pediatric gym 🧸 for some hands-on learning. Such a great day of discovering new healthcare career paths! 🙌

AHEAD Program – Day 3 Recap

Today our students explored the Medical Laboratory Science program 🔬, examining cells under the microscope and practicing blood typing and urinalysis in the lab. We wrapped up the day at the Speech-Language Pathology program learning about swallow testing, hearing assessments, and voice modification. Another hands-on day discovering allied health careers! 🌟

✅ Day 2 of our AHEAD Program was a big success!

Today our students learned all about the Respiratory Therapy Pathway with a special presentation, including a trip to the hospital to see what a day in the life of an RT looks like.

We also highlighted our Nursing Program, including our collaboration with the New Orleans campus. Students got hands-on experience learning how to take blood pressure and practice other essential skills.

We’re so proud to help introduce these future healthcare professionals to the many opportunities in our field!

📣 Exciting first day of our AHEAD program with local high school students!

Today they explored our Physician Assistant (PA) program by learning how to do sutures and perform ultrasounds. They also got valuable college tips during a College 101 session with Jennifer Smith. To top it off, they spent time in our cadaver lab for an in-depth anatomy lesson with our instructors.

We’re so proud to share these hands-on experiences and help inspire the next generation of healthcare professionals! 🩺✨

🎉 Today we wrapped up a interactive three-week Active Learning Lecture Series led by Jennifer Ellis Smith, our Director of Student Success & Retention, for the Master of Medical Sciences students!

The final session focused on three high-impact study strategies:
🧠 Retrieval Practice
🧩 Elaboration
🔄 Interleaving

Students engaged in active learning by participating in a retrieval practice activity using key topics from their upcoming anatomy exam by creating learning aids without notes to test memory. Through small group collaboration, they deepened their understanding by asking “who,” “what,” and “why,” turning content into conversation through elaboration.

Mrs. Smith closed the session by emphasizing the importance of interleaving—encouraging students to rotate between topics as they prepare across multiple courses.

🎓 Last Day of AHEAD 2025! 🎓
Today marked the final day of the AHEAD program for our amazing group of local high school students! They got a hands-on look at our Physical Therapy program, participated in mock interviews in their chosen fields, and wrapped it all up with a special graduation celebration!

It’s been such a joy watching them grow throughout the week—exploring all that the Allied Health Professions have to offer. We’re so proud of their curiosity, determination, and drive. Each one of them has such a bright future ahead, and we can’t wait to see where their journeys take them! 🌟
