🚨 IMPORTANT UPDATE for the Parkinson’s Community 🚨

The FDA is now requiring a new warning on all carbidopa/levodopa medications — a treatment many of our patients rely on every day.

👉 The concern:
Vitamin B6 deficiency
👉 Potential risk:
⚠️ Seizures associated with low B6 levels

Here’s what you need to know:
🔹 Risk appears higher in patients on high-dose levodopa (>1000 mg/day)
🔹 Some reported seizures did NOT respond to typical seizure meds
🔹 Many cases improved after vitamin B6 supplementation
🔹 Monitoring B6 levels is now recommended

đź’ˇ What this means for YOU or your loved one:
✔️ Don’t panic — this is rare, but important
✔️ Talk to your provider about checking baseline B6 levels
✔️ Ongoing monitoring may now become part of routine care
✔️ Supplementation may be needed in some patients

As a movement disorder provider, this is something I will be watching closely in my patients — especially those on higher doses or advanced therapies.

💬 This is exactly why education + advocacy matter — staying ahead of changes like this helps us protect and empower our Parkinson’s community.

📣 Share this with someone who takes carbidopa/levodopa!

A promising new therapy is gaining attention in Parkinson’s care 👇

Tavapadon, a selective D1/D5 dopamine agonist, has shown significant improvement in motor symptoms in early Parkinson’s disease in a recent phase 3 trial. Benefits were seen as early as week 5 and sustained over 26 weeks, with mostly mild to moderate side effects.

Why this matters:
• A new approach targeting D1 pathways
• Potential to improve symptoms earlier in disease
• Expanding our treatment toolbox

As always, long-term data will be key—but this is an exciting step forward in reshaping how we treat Parkinson’s.

What they won’t tell you a bout Parkinson’s…

When someone is diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, people often hear about the tremor or movement symptoms. But those living with Parkinson’s know the journey is much deeper than that.

Sometimes it’s the strength it takes to keep going.
Sometimes it’s the resilience you discover inside yourself.
Sometimes it’s the community you never expected to find.

👇 Finish this sentence in the comments:

“What they don’t tell you about Parkinson’s is ______.”

Your voice matters. Your experience could help someone who was just diagnosed and trying to understand what lies ahead.

Together we share.
Together we learn.
Together we advocate for a future without Parkinson’s.
