We offer patient-centered care in several areas, including burns, craniofacial conditions, orthopedics, spine care and sports medicine. All care and services are provided regardless of the families’ ability to pay or insurance status. Established in 1922, Shriners Children's Shreveport was the first facility established in the Shriners Children's system. Serving a six-state area in the southern United States, the orthopedic and cleft lip/palate facility has provided expert care to a global population of over 110,000 children. The 2026 Shriners Children's College Showdown takes place this weekend, and Shriners Children’s Shreveport patients will be front and center serving as team captains! Shreveport patient ambassadors Jace, Autumn, and Fischer will join with other kids from across our system to serve as team captains during this exciting six-team, round-robin college baseball tournament.

The East West Shrine Bowl was held last week, and Shriners Children’s Shreveport staff were on the sidelines helping keep players safe and game-ready! Our own Dr. Ronald Lewis and athletic trainer Jason joined with sport medicine specialists from across the country to provide practice week and game-day support to players. The duo provided preventative care, taping, injury support, hydration and more to help the rosters of NFL hopefuls perform at their best. We were proud to support the players and this outstanding event! ❤️🏈

Each year, Shriners Children’s Shreveport recognizes an employee who has made substantial contributions to the facility over the preceding 12 months. We are proud to announce that, upon recommendation of fellow staff members, Derek Edwards, ADN, has been named our Employee of the Year for 2025!

Derek joined our facility in 2022, and quickly became an integral member of our nursing staff. Now a charge nurse in our clinic, Derek is known as a leader, problem solver and mentor dedicated to improving each day for both patients and staff. His outstanding efforts also earned him the distinction of being named our Nurse of the Year - 2025 last spring!

Derek’s peers have praised his commitment to the mission of Shriners Children’s, noting “he is everyone’s go-to when anything needs to be done…he is a team player and stays focused on the patient’s best interests.” In addition, “What sets Derek apart is his dedication to helping team members grow…he teaches without judgement, encourages professional development, and makes sure clinics run smoothly.”

Derek is married to wife Elise, with whom he shares sons Elliott, 6, and Jude, 4. He enjoys reading and spending quality time playing with his boys. Congratulations, Derek, and thank you for your outstanding dedication to our patients and staff! 🤩👏🎉
