Congratulations to Samira Mahmoudi in Dr. Huang's lab is May Graduate Student of the Month!

🎉 Congratulations to our May Graduate Student of the Month, Samira Mahmoudi!
Samira is a PhD student in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, conducting her research in Dr. Shile Huang’s Lab. Originally from Tehran, Iran, she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology-Biotechnology and a Master’s in Microbial Biotechnology.
Her dissertation is titled “Insights into Rapamycin-Mediated Inhibition of mSin1 Phosphorylation.” Her research focuses on understanding how mTOR regulates mSin1 phosphorylation independently of its two canonical complexes, mTORC1 and mTORC2.
Samira shared that she chose graduate school because research is something she truly enjoys — it allows her to follow her passion while continuing to grow both professionally and personally.

Congratulations to Md Abir Hosain from Dr. Ding's lab of being Student of the Month! :)

The August Graduate Student of the Month is Mohammed (Md) Abir Hosain. Mohammed is a doctoral candidate in Dr. Ding Lab’s in the department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Mohammed’s research is currently focused on Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis type 4 (ALS Type 4) which is an early onset neurodegenerative movement disorder. The title of his PhD dissertation work is “Modeling movement disorder ALS Type 4 using induced human motor neurons.” Outside of the lab, he is an avid gardener. Mohammed shares, “In Bangladesh, I used to grow several vegetable plants and my mom is still taking care of my aloe vera tree in my home country.” He is eager to continue this hobby in USA soon.
