LSU Health Shreveport Cardiopulmonary Science Bachelor of Science in Cardiopulmonary Science (CIP 51.0908)

The Cardiopulmonary Science (CPS) program provides professional preparation in the allied health specialties of respiratory care and cardiovascular technology. The CPS program at LSU Health Shreveport (LSUH-S) is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC). The education in cardiopulmonary science prepares students to provide care to neonatal/infant, pediatric, and adult patients with both respiratory and cardiac disease, administer diagnostic tests, therapeutic agents and techniques, and operate and maintain the instrumentation and equipment involved in these procedures. With a firm background in anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and clinical medicine, the graduate is prepared to exercise judgment and accept responsibility in performance of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in care of the cardiopulmonary patient. In addition, the baccalaureate CPS graduate is a potential supervisor, educator, or specialty liaison within the respiratory care and cardiovascular technology arena. Graduates are eligible to earn professional credentials in respiratory care and cardiovascular technology as well as licensure to practice respiratory care in Louisiana and other States across the US.

The LSU Health Shreveport Cardiopulmonary Science and BPCC Respiratory Therapy programs enjoyed celebrating Respiratory Care Week! Students and faculty came together for a fun lunch, then joined BPCC’s Trunk or Treat where they won 2nd place for their creative “Thoracic Park” themed trunk! 🦖🫁

Our faculty and students were also featured on the news and radio, spreading the word about Respiratory Therapy as a rewarding and impactful career. And we loved seeing our BPCC graduates celebrating RC Week from St. Francis Medical Center—once an RT student, always part of the family!
