Know the signs of a herniated disc. Radiating pain, numbness or tingling, and weakness are common symptoms — and they shouldn’t be ignored. Early evaluation is key to preventing worsening symptoms and achieving the best possible outcome.

At The Spine Institute of Louisiana, most herniated discs can be treated with non-surgical options such as:
• Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
• Activity modification
• Physical therapy
• Injections

If symptoms persist despite conservative care, our Board-Certified Spine Surgeons are experts in Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery to remove the disc or bone fragments causing pain.

Don’t wait. Early diagnosis and the right treatment plan can make all the difference.💛

March is National Nutrition Month — and what you eat truly impacts your spine. 🥦🐟🍅

Fueling your body with anti-inflammatory foods like leafy greens, berries, fatty fish, and whole foods can help reduce inflammation and support overall spine health.
💧 Hydration is also key — your spinal discs rely on proper hydration to maintain cushioning and flexibility.
🦴 Don’t forget calcium and Vitamin D to promote strong, healthy bones and protect your spine long term.

Support your spine from the inside out. Small, healthy choices today can make a big difference tomorrow.

Spring Forward, Move More! 🌸⏰

Movement is medicine. Even gentle daily movement like walking can improve circulation, reduce stiffness, and support overall spine health. Small, consistent steps truly make a big difference.

As we head into a new season, let this be your reminder to stay active safely — listen to your body, start slow if needed, and build gradually.

Your spine was made to move. If pain is holding you back, we’re here to help you get moving again.

Lost an Hour of Sleep? Your Spine Feels It. Daylight Savings Time is a great reminder that sleep isn’t just about feeling rested, it’s about your health. ⏰💤 Poor sleep can increase inflammation in the body, which may worsen back and neck pain over time. Protect your spine by setting yourself up for better rest:

✔️ Mattress support matters – Choose a mattress that keeps your spine in a neutral position (not sagging or overly firm).
✔️ Pillow positioning is key – Your pillow should support the natural curve of your neck. Side sleepers may benefit from a pillow between the knees; back sleepers can place one under the knees.
✔️ Ideal sleep positions – Sleeping on your back or side is generally best for spinal alignment. Try to avoid stomach sleeping, which can strain the neck and lower back.
✔️ Most adults need 7–9 hours of quality sleep each night for proper healing, inflammation control, and overall wellness.

Better sleep = better spine health. If pain is keeping you up at night, we’re here to help!

Happy Birthday, Kate! 🎉✨

Fun fact: Kate’s birthday is actually on February 29 — a true leap year birthday! That means she gets an official birthday only once every four years, making her part of an exclusive club shared by less than 0.1% of the population. Talk about rare and special! 💛🎂

Help us wish her the happiest of birthdays! 🎈🥳
