We had a great conversation with a patient in the office today at Flourish Functional Medicine that we thought we’d share with y’all:
If you are just starting out on a GLP-1 (like Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, etc.) journey, or considering making better choices, you’ve probably heard a lot about starting with diet or been curious about what to eat. Today, we were able to possibly shift a patient’s perspective by saying:
“No naked carbs.” 🥨🚫
You don’t have to change everything, you just need to change some things…
So… what exactly is a naked carb? 👇
A naked carb is when you eat a carbohydrate all by itself—think a plain bagel, a bowl of white rice, a piece of toast with nothing on it, or a sugary granola bar. When carbs show up “naked,” they hit your bloodstream fast, spike your blood sugar, and—especially for those on GLP-1 medications—can lead to that dreaded nausea, fatigue, or blood sugar crash.
The fix? Always pair your carbs! 🩺✨
If you’re on a GLP-1, this could be your game-changer. The medication is already working to slow gastric emptying and stabilize blood sugar. Supporting it by “dressing” your carbs helps keep side effects at bay and keeps your energy steady throughout the day.
Try this instead:
· Apple slices → add peanut butter 🍎🥜
· Crackers → add cheese or hummus 🧀
· Oatmeal → add protein powder or nuts 🌰
· Toast → top with avocado or eggs 🥑🍳
Whether you’re navigating GLP-1s or just looking for sustainable weight loss, small shifts like this make all the difference.
Who’s ready to start dressing their carbs? 🙋♀️👇
