So… it’s been a while…

First the bad news: If you don’t already know, we had to unfortunately close the birth center. It was a heartbreaking decision, but one that had to be made.

The good news: we have turned what we created into online courses through our new side gig . We are just getting our social media up and running, and would love if you would follow us over there to get awesome info and tools. Our first courses launch next month and we couldn’t be more excited!

Shreveport Birth Center may not be catching babies these days, but check out our new side gig!

The Birth Consultants is our new online platform for childbirth ed and anything related. Help us out by liking and following our facebook and instagram pages! And share with your friends who want solid, evidence-based information about all things related to pregnancy and reproductive health!

Our first e-courses launch next month and we couldn't be more excited to share what we do with people outside of our community.

P**p happens, and so does meconium!

Meconium is the name for a baby's first p**p, and if you've had a baby before you know how messy and annoying it can be! But how do babies even have p**p when they haven't actually eaten anything?

While inside your uterus, the baby is actually drinking the amniotic fluid and all the skin cells and vernix that might be floating around in there and meconium is what their immature digestive systems make of it. Thankfully it's short lived and once they start eating milk their p**p becomes much easier to handle!

Embracing the spirit of renewal this first day of spring! 🌷

When I opened the birth center in 2019, my five year vision included a bustling, busy practice, several staff midwives, sustainability, and so many programs for our community. Unfortunately these past five years brought all sorts of challenges that I couldn't have prepared for, and we are nowhere close to that vision today!

The return of Spring is a wonderful reminder for us that everything has its season and that rest is necessary to channel that energy into our own journey of growth and progress. While the birth center may not be where we hoped to be right now, we're excited to be taking this opportunity to regroup, recharge, and, hopefully, come back stronger than ever. Here's to fresh beginnings and the endless possibilities that lie ahead!

We are passionate about informed care, and we know that knowledge is key to a positive birth experience! Our midwife-created childbirth education series will help you gain the skills, confidence, and support you need for a smooth transition into parenthood.

Whether you plan to birth unmedicated or are planning for an epidural, our course will guide you through all your decision making from pregnancy, birth, and the early postpartum. At the end of the six week series, you'll have a customized birth and postpartum plan that will empower you to have a healthy and rewarding birthing experience.

A few of the things you'll learning through our course:
- coping techniques
- tools for communicating with your provider
- risks, benefits, and options for routine procedures during childbirth and after
- balanced information to help you navigate changes in your plan
- tools for managing boundaries in the postpartum period
- newborn care including diapering, sleep, and feeding options

We recommend starting childbirth education as close as possible to the third trimester, so this series will be best for people due in August or September, but you're welcome to register no matter when you're due!
