💖It's Body Acceptance Week, so let's dive deep into the powerful truth that your worth is not defined by how your body looks. Your value is immeasurable and you were created for more than just to be admired.

🌻 Society often tries to tell us otherwise, but let's stand firm in the knowledge that true beauty radiates from within. Your kindness, your compassion, your wisdom—these are the things that truly make you shine. You have gifts that are unique to you!

🌟 Teach your children that their worth is not a number on a scale, a clothing size, or a reflection in the mirror. It's about the love they give, the dreams they chase, and the way they treat others. Encourage them to celebrate their uniqueness and embrace the incredible qualities that make them who they are.

🦋 Remember, you are worthy of love, respect, and all the good things life has to offer, just as you are. Let's spread this empowering message, not just this week, but every day.

🌟 During this Body Acceptance Week, let's explore the power of our words and actions in fostering a healthy relationship with our bodies, setting a beautiful example for our children.

💬 Language matters. The way we talk about our bodies shapes our self-image and influences the next generation. Instead of criticism, let's practice respect. Rather than judgment, let's choose compassion.

🌸 Try these simple shifts:
1️⃣ Replace "I hate my..." with "I appreciate my..."
2️⃣ Swap "I wish I were..." with "I am grateful for my..."
3️⃣ Ditch "I need to fix..." and embrace "I am learning to love..."

💞 Show your kids that bodies are instruments that allow us to live a life of purpose and passion. Let's focus on the amazing things our bodies can do, not just how they look. Share your journey towards body respect with them and let them know that it's okay to be kind to themselves.

💪 Let's teach our children to stand strong, speak kindly, and love themselves unconditionally. It's a gift that will last a lifetime.

🌼 It's Body Acceptance Week, and we're celebrating the uniqueness of our individual bodies. And I'm here to remind you that it's not only okay but absolutely essential for you to take up space. Diet culture and the thin ideal try to make you live your life smaller-- whether is it pressure to lose weight, to fit a certain standard of beauty, or to not speak up for yourself -- we don't have to listen to those messages!

🌱 Your body is a miraculous creation, designed with love and care. Your genetics play a significant role in how your body looks and feels. It's a reminder that we are fearfully and wonderfully made! Just as you can't shrink your shoe size, you also can't sustainably shrink your body to less than your own genetic blueprint.

🌈 Let's teach our children the importance of embracing their bodies, understanding that beauty and health is diverse and not confined to any one ideal. We can show them that our bodies are capable of living life fully and making amazing memories. Drs. Lindsay and Lexie Kite framed it as, "Your body is an instrument, not an ornament", in their book, More Than a Body.

💖 Today, let's honor our genetic blueprints. Celebrate the body that is uniquely YOU, and inspire your children to love and accept their bodies just the way they are.

Today marks the beginning of Body Acceptance Week (October 23-27, 2023) which is an exciting initiative promoting body acceptance. Some core tenants of body acceptance and body respect include:

- accepting your body's genetic blueprint
- having gratitude for what your body can do
- treating your body with respect
- stop comparing your body to others
- altering how you think and speak about your own body

Stay tuned this week to learn more about how you can work on accepting your body as it is, right now!

Are you trying to work on your relationship with food and body image so that you can help your child to develop a healthy relationship too?

For so many parents that I work with in my private practice business, their main motivation for seeking nutritional counseling is to create a healthy environment for their children to grow up in. It’s hard because we’ve all been affected by diet culture.

And the way that you were parented is often the way that you parent your children, unless you break the cycle of unhealthy or disordered patterns, and do something differently!

So here’s to parenting the next generation from a place of healing and restoration! You can learn to eat intuitively again and nourish your body with confidence.

How you talk about food is often how you talk about yourself when you eat that food. Good or bad, healthy or unhealthy, clean or dirty. Food labels like these create black and white ways of thinking of food. With black and white thinking often comes rigidity and food rules. ❌

But let's break free from these restrictive labels! Food isn't a moral issue. You're not better for eating "healthy" or "clean," but neither are you "bad" for indulging in dessert or fast food. Food is just food. It can nourish you, provide you with energy to get throughout the day, and give you a sense of satisfaction.

So, let's celebrate the diverse and delicious world of food without guilt or shame. Enjoy that chocolate cake, savor that fresh salad, and relish every bite without judgment. Food is meant to be enjoyed, savored, and shared without fear or negativity.

Let me know in the comments which food labels you hear most often! Share your thoughts and let's spread the message of food freedom together! 👇🍕🥑

It’s commonly believed that body image issues and eating disorders only develop in girls but boys are not immune to the effects of diet culture and social media. The signs might look different than expected but this article gives a great overview of some red flags to watch out for!

https://www.washingtonpost.com/parenting/2022/04/26/boys-body-image-problems/

Despite the popular image of eating disorders and body shame as a unique threat to girls, experts and clinicians who work with children are sounding alarms about boys, who they say are probably underdiagnosed.

Love this! When we lead with curiosity instead of judgement, we have the opportunity to learn and grow.

How would this change your perspective? If you viewed yourself as a safe container? You are so much more than your feelings and your thinking. Yes- these are a part of you and a part of what make you up! But they are not all of what makes you you.

All of this is still true today and every day ❤️

All of this is still true today and every day ❤️

Most of you have probably heard someone say, “I’ll finally be happy when I weigh ____.” You may have even said it yourself. But it’s never enough. And happiness isn’t found in being a certain weight or pants size.

Diet culture tells us that in order to be “healthy”, beautiful, loved, or worthy, we can’t take up too much space. But, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, diet culture is a liar.

If you want to drop something, drop:

👎Negative self-talk.
👎Shame around your food choices.
👎Weight stigma.
👎Unrealistic expectations.
👎Food rules.
👎DIET CULTURE.

And let’s focus on the things that actually improve your quality of life:

🔆Getting adequate sleep and rest.
🔅Moving your body in ways that feels good.
🔆Regular meals and snacks that you find both nourishing and satisfying.
🔅Nurturing personal relationships (friends, family, community, etc. ).
🔆Improve your self-care (your mental health has a HUGE impact on your overall health).
🔅Do something meaningful (this could be your job, philanthropy, advocacy, volunteering, supporting charitable organizations, etc.).
🔆Have a spiritual practice (prayer, meditation, journaling, or anything that connects you to something bigger than yourself).

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

How do you focus on things that improve your quality of life?

What do you need to let go of today?
