AHEAD PROGRAM:
High School students from Caddo & Bossier got a closer peep at the Master of Public Health Program. They were introduced and taught about the public health world.
Dr. Deborah Smith, Asst. Professor provided them information on the various viruses that exists.
Samm Darby, MPH Coordinator and Manu Gurgel, volunteer student were on hand to assist.

Dr. Smith, MPH Assistant Professor is proud to share that her research mentee, Camila Carrera (MS3), presented a poster titled “Disparities in Cervical Cancer Prevention among Hispanic and Black Women” at the 28th Annual Meeting of the National Hispanic Medical Association (NHMA), held June 5–7, 2025, in Anaheim, CA.

The conference, themed “Uniendo Voces: Advancing the Future of Latino Health,” brought together healthcare leaders, students, and advocates to discuss pressing health issues in the Latino/Hispanic community. Camila’s poster highlighted disparities in cervical cancer prevention and contributed to an important dialogue on equity in cancer care.

AHEAD 2025 Kicked off it’s Summer Healthcare Journey

Local high school students visit School of Allied Health Professions each year to participate in the AHEAD Program. They get hands on experience with the various programs (OT, PT, PA, MLS, CT, SLP, MPH, and Nursing).

This encourages students to have high dreams and to believe that they can become anything they want to be.

Dr. Deborah Smith, MPH Assistant Professor took the students on an exploratory tour into the public health world. She taught them about the germs and vaccines that exists.

School of Allied Health Professions and Life Share hosted the Quarterly Blood Drive on June 5, 2025. MPH staff and volunteers were on hand to assist.

A friendly competition with the SAHP programs took place.
And The Winner goes to … PHYSICAL THERAPY (PT).
