Today, on World Autism Awareness Day, the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine proudly joins the global community in recognizing and supporting individuals on the autism spectrum.

Autism is not a limitation, it is a different way of experiencing and interacting with the world. We celebrate the unique strengths, perspectives, and contributions of those with autism, while also acknowledging the importance of understanding, acceptance, and access to compassionate care.

As a department, we remain committed to advancing awareness, promoting inclusive practices, and supporting evidence-based care for individuals and families impacted by autism spectrum disorder.

Let today serve as a reminder to lead with empathy, embrace neurodiversity, and continue building a community where everyone is valued and supported. 💙

We’re proud to share a new webpage article written by Christy Melville, LSUHS Senior Writer/Editor, titled Before You Start That Supplement, Start a Conversation, featuring insights from Dr. Pamela McPherson, Vice Chair of Psychiatry at LSU Health Shreveport.

In this timely piece, Dr. McPherson highlights the importance of discussing vitamins, herbal remedies, and over-the-counter supplements with your healthcare provider—especially since some products can interact with prescriptions or impact your overall health.
