Neurodiversity is a growing field of research, from how does autism get diagnosed to what are the lifelong implications of neurodiverse individuals.

Very little has been explored about how neurodiversity impacts relationships.

Next week, our Peer Consultation Group, Embracing Neurodiversity begins. We'll talk more about autism through disability and ability models of human diversity. Family systems perspectives include siblings, parents, generational influences, and the impact of larger sociocultural influences.

Each session includes content presentation, case examples, and group discussion.

Embracing Neurodiversity starts next Wednesday September 20 from 12:30-2. It will meet biweekly until Thanksgiving.

Like all of our peer consultation groups, it is FREE for NEAFAST members to join, and $80 for non-members. 9 CEs can be purchased for $90 for NEAFAST members, $110 for non-members.

The original models of family therapy dealt with the nuclear and extended family system, but as the field has evolved, we realize that larger systems, like schools and community organizations, also often operate in parallel process to the family system.

Ecosystemic Structural Family Therapy (ESFT) is a premier model that addresses how to engage larger structures from a systemic perspective, and starting Monday, NEAFAST will be hosting the Peer Consultation Group: A Deep Dive into EST.

This group will focus on the development of skills in and application of the Ecosystemic Structural Family Therapy model, especially as it pertains to in-home therapy work and family therapy sessions.

The Ecosystemic Structural Family Therapy model can be utilized to address trauma, generational patterns, maladaptive patterns of interaction, and relationship-based cycles that contribute to persistent challenges in the family system.

A Deep Dive into ESFT starts Monday September 18 from 12:30-2, and will meet on the third Monday of the month for the rest of the year.

Like all of our peer consultation groups, it is FREE for NEAFAST members to join, and $80 for non-members. 13.5 CEs can be purchased for $135 for NEAFAST members, $162 for non-members.

Next Friday, 9/15, our Family Therapy with Young Children group begins.

This group will be structured as a study group and as such will look at approaches to supporting families who have a young child struggling to grow up.

The struggle could be related to family members having a neurological issue (ADHD, sensory integration and regulation challenges, spectrum disorder), the structure of the family (parents not able to be a team, leadership problems, boundary issues) or the mistaken goals of the child.

We will talk about moving from an individual therapy to a family therapy perspective where the parents are the agents of change, by involving teachers, grandparents, coaches, nannies, etc.

Like all of our peer consultation groups, it is FREE for NEAFAST members to join, and $80 for non-members. 13.5 CEs can be purchased for $135 for NEAFAST members, $162 for non-members.
