“I was diagnosed with something that most doctors never heard of,” said Janki, a patient of Dr. Zuhaib Ibrahim at The Institute for Advanced Reconstruction. “Carney complex.”

Carney complex, also called Carney syndrome, is an extremely rare genetic condition that can cause skin pigmentation changes, benign tumors, and significant hormonal disruptions. For many patients, including children and young adults, these tumors can lead to life-altering pain and require surgical intervention.

“I was 19 when the pain started taking over my life,” reflects Janki.
She lived in excruciating pain… until she met Dr. Ibrahim, who listened, believed there was an underlying issue, and created a surgical plan that ultimately provided relief through mastectomy.

“Once I met him, I felt like I could trust this man,” she adds. “When I woke up for the first time [post-surgery], it was like I was reborn.”

At The Institute for Advanced Reconstruction, stories like Janki’s remind us why expertise in complex and rare conditions matters. Early recognition. Compassionate listening. Advanced surgical solutions. A chance at life again.

According to Dr. Joseph Dayan, peripheral nerve surgery remains a frontier in medicine.⁣

“What’s often overlooked is that when pain is caused by a specific compressed or damaged nerve, surgical intervention can be transformative converting somebody with chronic pain to somebody who is pain-free,” he explains.⁣

Dr. Dayan applies this principle to targeted procedures for conditions like post-mastectomy pain syndrome and occipital neuralgia. By identifying the exact nerve causing the pain and treating it directly, many patients are able to experience meaningful relief they once thought was impossible.⁣

For individuals who have tried every therapy only to be told their pain is something they must simply manage, understanding that a single injured nerve may be the source can be life-changing.⁣

If you or someone you love has been searching for answers, exploring peripheral nerve surgery may open a new path forward.

Dr. Joseph Dayan watched his grandmother live with Parkinson’s disease and saw doctors state there were no solutions or ways to improve her condition. Years later, he saw the same look in patients living with lymphedema who were told the same thing.

“They were told to wear compression garments for life while watching their limbs progressively swell,” he shared. “I knew there had to be a solution.”

Today, that solution exists. At The Institute, Dr. Dayan and his team provide cutting edge surgical interventions that offer real hope for patients who once felt out of options.

Procedures include:
• Lymphaticovenous Anastomosis
• Free Lymph Node Transfer
• Lymphedema Liposuction
• Lymphedema Mass Excision
• Breast Reconstruction with Lymphedema Surgery

These advanced techniques can support improved comfort, reduced swelling, better mobility, and a meaningful improvement in quality of life. Every patient is unique and results vary, but patients no longer have to accept the idea that nothing can be done.

If you have been told to simply “live with it,” you may have more options than you think.
